Toronto Blue Jays News and Notes: Two Pitchers of the Week

Sean Reid-Foley

A couple of Blue Jays’ minor league pitchers picked up some hardware and another got picked up by another organization. Here’s the latest “News and Notes” from Blue Jays from Away.

I’ve recently written that both Jordan Romano and Sean Reid-Foley were on the verge of being break-out prospects for the Blue Jays. I’ve also recently written up a scouting report of Reid-Foley after having seen him pitch for Buffalo. They’re both in the news as Reid-Foley was named the Pitcher of the Week for the Triple-A International League and Romano was named Pitcher of the Week in the Double-A Eastern League.

Reid-Foley pitched twice, throwing a total of 12 innings and giving up just one run on three hits and three walks with 12 strikeouts, for not a bad week of work. Romano was dominant in his last outing, tossing eight three-hit innings without giving up a run or a walk, striking out eight.

Chris Rowley

On the other side of the spectrum, the Blue Jays tried to sneak Chris Rowley through waivers to get him off the 40-man roster but he was claimed by the Texas Rangers. In Triple-A, Rowley has a 3.30 ERA in 101 innings but has walked 42 and struck out just 63 in that time. He pitched 2/3 of an inning in Toronto, allowing four runs (three earned) over that span. Rowley was assigned to Triple-A Round Rock in the Rangers’ system.

Marco Estrada

Ben Wagner and Shi Davidi also tell us that the Buffalo Bisons will be getting a couple of big leaguers on rehab assignments with Marco Estrada and Roberto Osuna joining on their road trip to Louisville.

Can Estrada work his way back into shape enough to be traded? Will he remain with Toronto for the rest of the season?
