July 21, 2021 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

The Toronto Blue Jays’ minor league affiliates went 2-3 in five games on Tuesday.

Buffalo Bisons 5, Syracuse Mets (NYM) 3

The Buffalo Bisons (40-25) beat the Syracuse Mets again, winning 5-3.

Alejandro Kirk went 2/3 with a double and two RBI before he came out of the game with Kirk likely headed to the Blue Jays as Danny Jansen aggravated his hamstring injury for the Blue Jays. Christian Colon was 2/4 with an RBI and a run while Logan Warmoth was 0/3 but walked twice, stole a base and scored twice. Kevin Smith was 1/3 with a walk and an RBI and Cullen Large was 1/4 with a double and a run. Nash Knight was 1/4, also hitting a double and scoring.

Jeremy Beasley acted as an opener, giving p two runs on two hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings. Jacob Waguespack picked up the win, holding the Mets to just a hit and a walk with two strikeouts in three innings and Connor Overton allowed a run on three hits (one HR) and struck out three in 2 1/3 innings. Bryan Baker struck out one in the eighth and Kirby Snead struck out one in the ninth to earn the save.

Roster Notes: Patrick Murphy was recalled by the Blue Jays and Anthony Castro was sent on a rehab assignment to Buffalo. Casey Lawrence was moved to New Hampshire from Buffalo.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 6, Reading Fightin Phils (PHI) 7

In another one-run loss, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (28-36) scored two in the bottom of the ninth but couldn’t come back all the way, falling 7-6 to the Reading Fightin Phils.

Chris Bec had two hits inclulding his first home run of the year, going 2/4 with two RBI and a run while Otto Lopez was 2/4 with a run. Chavez Young also had two hits, going 2/4 with an RBI and a run, throwing out a runner at second base. Vinny Capra was 1/4 with a double and two RBI and Jordan Groshans was 1/3 with an RBI and a run, adding a walk.

The start was Reilly Hovis who had a solid outing, giving up two runs on three hits (one HR) with a walk and five strikeouts in five innings. Mike Ellenbest was hit for two runs on three hits with a strikeout in the sixth and Graham Spraker gave up a run on three hits (one HR) with a walk in two innings. Fitz Stadler finished the game, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk with a strikeout in the ninth.

Roster Notes: Casey Lawrence was sent to New Hampshire from Buffalo.

Vancouver Canadians 2, Everett AquaSox (SEA) 6

The Vancouver Canadians (32-36) lost again,falling 6-2 to the Everett AquaSox.

The Canadians had just five hits including two from Tanner morris who was 2/4 with a home run, an RBI and a run. Sebastian Espino was 1/4 and Philip Clarke was 1/3 with a double and a run. Zac Cook was 1/4 with a double and an RBI.

Nick Fraze went two innings, surrendering a run on a hit and a walk and struck out two. Brandon Eisert followed with two innings, giving up two hits and a walk with three strikeouts over two innings. Willy Gaston took the loss, giving up two runs on a hit and a walk with two strikeouts in two innings and Parker Caracci allowed three runs on four hits with two walks and one strikeout in 1 2/3 innings. Connor Law finished the game, tossing 1 1/3 innings, walking one and striking out one.

Dunedin Blue Jays 11, Lakeland Flying Tigers (DET) 2

Orelvis Martinez and the Dunedin Blue Jays (29-38) pounded on the Lakeland Flying Tigers, winning 11-2.

Martinez is heating up to the heat of a supernova as he blasted two more home runs to give him 17 on the year, going 3/4 with a double, a walk, a stolen base, four RBI and three runs. Zach Britton also had three hits, going 3/5 with a home run, a stolen base, an RBI and two runs and Anthony Morales had a pair of hits, going 2/3 with two RBI and a walk and a rare stolen base from the catcher. Miguel Hiraldo was 1/4 with a walk, a stolen base and a run while Mack Mueller was 1/4 with a walk and a run. Steward Berroa was 1/5 with a double, an RBI and a run while P.K. Morris was 0/2 with two walks, a sac fly, an RBI and a run.

Naswell Paulino had a stellar start, allowing just two hits and two runs with five strikeouts in six innings for the win. Rafael Monsion allowed two runs on three hits (one HR) with a walk and a strikeout in one inning and Juan De Paula struck out one in two innings of work to finish it off.

Roster Notes: Jose Rivas was sent to the Dunedin Blue Jays from the FCL Blue Jays.

FCL Blue Jays 3, FCL Phillies 7

The FCL Blue Jays (10-7) gave up runs earlly, falling behind the FCL Philles and eventually losing 7-3.

Giving up the first five Phillies’ runs was Jonatan Bernal, who took the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) on eight hits (one HR) with two walks and a strikeout in four innings. Soenni Martinez took over, allowing two more runs on a hit and two walks in two innings before Kelvin Perez struck out three over his two innings of work. Brayan Mejia pitched the ninth, striking out one.

Darlin Guzman went 2/4 with a double, an RBI and a run while Angel Del Rosario also had two hits, going 2/4 with a run and a stolen base. Victor Mesia was 1/2 while Amell Brazoban was 1/4 with a double and an RBI. Adriel Sotolongo was 1/4 and Justin Ammons was 1/1.
