With three teams having scheduled off days on Monday, the Blue Jays’ affiliates went 3-2 for the day.

Dunedin Blue Jays 3, Daytona Tortugas 7

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays had their eight-game winning streak snapped by the Daytona Tortugas who beat them 7-3. Brock Lundquist continues to swing a blazing hot bat and went 4/4 with a run in the loss. Joshua Palacios was 1/5 with a double and an RBI while Rodrigo Orozco was 1/4 with a double and a run. Kevin Smith, Chad Spanberger and Riley Adams each had a hit with Spanberger adding a walk in his Dunedin debut.

Connor Eller took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits and a walk in four innings, striking out four. Jonathan Cheshire provided two innings of scoreless relief, giving up a hit and striking out two and Angel Perdomo got into trouble, allowing three runs on four hits including a home run with three strikeouts, leaving a man on for William Ouellette after 1 2/3 innings. Ouellette allowed a hit which let his inherited runner to score before he got the final out of the game.

Lansing Lugnuts 5, Fort Wayne TinCaps 4

 

Kyle Weatherly

In a game called early due to rain, the Lansing Lugnuts won again against the Fort Wayne TinCaps, 5-4. Kyle Weatherly struck out eight in five innings, giving up two runs on six hits with a walk but it was Emerson Jimenez, who got the win, despite blowing the save. Jimenez tossed an inning and allowed two runs on three hits with one strikeout and Orlando Pascual earned the save, pitching the seventh inning and striking out one.

Jesus Navarro had two of the Lugnuts five hits, going 2/3 with a double and two runs (including the game winner) while Samad Taylor was 1/3 with an RBI and a run. Vinny Capra and Reggie Pruitt (who also drove in a run and had an outfield assist) had the club’s other two hits and Ryan Noda was 0/2 but walked twice and scored once.

Bluefield Blue Jays 10, Greeneville Reds 5

The Bluefield Blue Jays brought some thunder to the pitching staff in a 10-5 win over the Greeneville Reds. Cal Stevenson pushed his batting average to .358 with a 3/4 game, hitting a double, taking a walk, driving in a run and scoring three times. Alejandro Kirk also had three hits, driving in three runs and scoring once. Jose Theran was 2/4 with a double, a run and a stolen base and D.J. Daniels creeps ever closer to the Mendoza Line, going 1/2 with a walk and two runs. Gabriel Moreno hit his first home run with Bluefield, going 1/4 with a walk and two RBI and Rafael Lantigua was 1/4 with a double, a walk and two runs, adding a stolen base.

Adams Cuevas started, allowing all five runs (three earned) on five hits and a walk with six strikeouts in four innings. Alvaro Galindo got the win, allowing one of two inherited runners to score and giving up five hits in 2 2/3 innings. Mike Pascoe stranded two inherited runners, giving up two hits and striking out one in 1 1/3 ninings. Cre Finfrock pitched a scoreless ninth, striking out two.

GCL Blue Jays 6, GCL Tigers West 2

 

Leonardo Jimenez

The GCL Blue Jays beat the GCL Tigers West 6-2 on the backs of solid pitching, excellent base running and making fewer errors than their opponent. Starter Emanuel Vizcaino allowed just one run on three hits and a walk in four innings while striking out a whopping eight batters. Anderson Nunez got the win, throwing 2 1/3 innings of one-hit ball, striking out one and committing the club’s only error. Gage Burland allowed a run on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings and Meliton Reyes got the save, allowing a hit with three strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings.

Leonardo Jimenez led the way with two doubles, an RBI and a run while Jose Abel Hernandez was 2/4 with two runs and Steward Berroa was 2/3 with two runs and two stolen bases. Adrian Ramos was 1/4 with a walk, an RBI and two stolen bases and Yhordegny Kelly also stole a base, going 1/4 with a run. Troy Squires was on base twice, going 1/4 with a walk.

DSL Blue Jays 2, DSL White Sox 4

 

Starter Alexis Carmona cruised through five innings without giving up a run but he ran into trouble in the sixth as the DSL White Sox got to him for three of their four runs in a 4-2 victory over the DSL Blue Jays. All three of the runs that Carmona allowed were unearned as he gave up a single in the sixth, followed by an error by Alberto Rodriguez and then a wild pitch. He struck out the next batter and walked the next and then hit the sixth batter of the inning with a pitch. A sacrifice fly and a single brought three runs in and Juan Acosta got out of the inning with a ground out. Overall, Carmona allowed six hits and a walk with two strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings while Acosta finished the game, giving up just two hits and a run with three strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings.

Jhon Solarte (2/4, RBI) and Miguel Hiraldo (2/4) combined for four of the Blue Jays’ seven hits while Rainer Nunez drove in the club’s other run, going 1/4.
