August 21, 2021 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

In five games in the Toronto Blue Jays’ minor league system, the club was 4-1.

Buffalo Bisons 0, Syracuse Mets 3

The Buffalo Bisons (55-35) were one-hit as they fell 3-0 to the Syracuse Mets.

Mallex Smith had his first hit with the Bisons, going 1/1 but came out of the game to be replaced by Nash Knight who took a walk. Cullen Large walked twice and Christian Colon, Forrest Wall, Logan Warmoth and Josh Palacios all walked once.

Thomas Hatch started, giving up three runs on four hits (three HRs) and a walk with five strikeouts in five innings. Curtis Taylor allowed a hit and two walks in 2/3 of an inning and Kyle Johnston walked one and struck out two in 1 1/3 innings. Fitz Stadler struck out the side in the eighth to finish the game.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 5, Hartford Yard Goats (COL) 8

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (44-47) couldn’t add on after scoring four runs in the top of the seventh to narrow the Hartford Yard Goats’ lead to three runs, ultimately falling 8-5.

Jordan Groshans continues to swing a hot bat, going 2/4 with a home run, an RBI and two runs and Chris Bec hit a grand slam, going 1/3 with four RBI and a run. Kevin Vicuna was 2/4 with a double and a run and LJ Talley was 1/3 with a walk and a run.

Reilly Hovis allowed four runs on six hits (three HRs), striking out five in three innings and Emerson Jimenez allowed a run on two hits and two walks in one inning. Jon Harris also allowed two runs on two hits (one HR) with two strikeouts in one inning. Marcus Reyes allowed a run on two hits with a walk and a strikeout in one inning before Parker Caracci and Sean Rackoski pitched a clean inning each.

Vancouver Canadians 4, Tri-City Dust Devils (LAA) 3

The Vancouver Canadians (44-51) relied on the bat of a red-hot Spencer Horwitz and held off the Tri-City Dust Devils 4-3.

Horwitz had the blast for the Canadians, hitting a three-run home run in the fifth inning to give the club the lead. He went 1/3 with the three RBI and a walk. Zac Cook had a double and a run, going 1/3 while Luis De Los Santos was 1/3 with a walk, an RBI and a run. Tanner Morris was 1/3 with a walk.

Starter Adam Kloffenstein went six solid innings, giving up three runs on only three hits (one HR) with a walk and seven strikeouts. Justin Maese allowed a hit and struck out one in one inning and Gabriel Ponce allowed two hits and a walk in 2/3 of an inning. Andrew Bash went the final 1 1/3 innings for the save, stranding all three inherited runners.

Dunedin Blue Jays 4, Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (MIN) 3

The Dunedin Blue Jays (43-51) walked it off again, getting an RBI single from Miguel Hiraldo to score Harrison Ray to seal a 4-3 victory against the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels.

Hiraldo didn’t get an RBI on the play and was 1/5 with a stolen base. Jose Rivas had two hits, going 2/3 with a walk, two runs and a stolen base while Zach Britton was 2/4 with a run. Harrison Ray was 0/4 but drove in a run, stole a base and scored the winning run. PK Morris was 1/4 and Addison Barger was 1/4 with an RBI. Mack Mueller was 1/4 with a stolen base.

Nathanael Perez started and had a stellar start, going five innings, allowing just one run on six hits (one HR) with a walk and seven strikeouts. Justin Kelly allowed two unearned runs on a hit and a walk with three strikeouts in two innings and Harry Rutkowski struck out three in the final two innings for the win.

FCL Blue Jays

DSL Blue Jays 1, DSL Mariners 7

The DSL Blue Jays (16-10) had just three hits in a 7-1 loss to the DSL Mariners.

Francisco Fajardo had two of the Blue Jays’ hits, going 2/2 with a walk and a stolen base. Jonathan Peguero had the ohter hit, going 1/3.

Nathanael Perez provided two scoreless innings in the start, walking one and striking out one while Robin De Jesus allowed three runs on two hits (two HRs) and three walks in 1/3 of an inning. Francis Mercedes struck out three and stranded two inherited runners, allowing a hit in 1 2/3 innings and Angel Santana allowed a hit and struck out one in one inning. Gabriel Ochoa gave up a run on a walk and struck out two in 2/3 of an inning and Frank Medina finished it, allowing three runs on four hits (one HR) with a strikeout in 1 1/3 innings.
