Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Named Eastern League Player of the Month, and other news

Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

In “well, duh” news, we learned that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was named the Eastern League Player of the Month, taking home the first Fisher Cat Player of the Month award for the club since their inaugural season in 2004.

What did Vlad do to deserve this honour? He hit .438/.480/.768 with nine home runs and 28 RBI. According to the Fisher Cats’ press release, that home run total tied the club’s single-month record and his 49 hits in May set a new club record.

All of this goes to say that he’s pretty good (#understatement) at just 19 year old. Ho hum.

As the Blue Jays prepare for the draft tonight, our old friend, Clutchlings, (now known as www.futurebluejays.com) brings us a summary of which amateur players have been linked to the Blue Jays through mock drafts.

Why will you not find a similar story here? Well, things have been busy in the real world for me and it’s a lot of work to speculate and research dozens of potential draft picks when the event is so fluid and, of the half-dozen or so players who prognosticators suggest might be selected by the Blue Jays, there’s a real possibility that the Jays’ selection at the #12 overall pick will be none of the above.

Since hindsight is 20/20, I’ll wait until the pick is made and then bring you a quick report on the player and what some of the people who follow this more closely than I say about him.

Stay tuned! More on the draft tonight as it happens!
