The Blue Jays’ affiliates lost all five games they played on a Sunday on which the major league picked up a win.

 

Buffalo Bisons 3, Charlotte Knights 4

The Buffalo Bisons faced rehabbing Carlos Rodon of the Charlotte Knights, falling 4-3 in a close game. Sean Reid-Foley was on the hill early, giving up three runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks over two innings with one strikeout before he came out of the game having thrown 63 pitches. Nick Tepesch took over, firing five scoreless innings in his first outing for Buffalo this year, giving up three hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Jake Petricka threw a perfect eighth and it was Justin Shafer who took the loss, giving up a run on three hits in the ninth, striking out two.

Dwight Smith Jr. drove in all three runs for the Bisons, going 2/4 with a stolen base while Darnell Sweeney was 2/3 with a walk and Gift Ngoepe was 2/3 with a walk and two runs.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 2, Binghamton Rumble Ponies 4

2017 Appalachian League Pitcher of the Year Randy Pondler made his Double-A debut, starting the first game of a double header for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats as they lost the first half of the twin bill 4-2 to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Pondler took the loss, giving up three runs on five hits and three walks with two strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. Brayden Bouchey finished the fourth and threw the fifth, giving up a run on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Zach Jackson pitched the sixth, striking out two in a clean inning.

The Fisher Cats had just four hits among them including a two-run home run by Gunnar Heidt that accounted for all their scoring. Andrew Guillotte was 1/3 with a run and Harold Ramirez was 1/3. Cavan Biggio walked twice and Bo Bichette was 1/3 with a double. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had the day off after sustaining a mild injury running to first on Saturday.

Roster Notes: None noted officially, but Randy Pondler was put on the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 1, Binghamton Rumble Ponies 5

 

Max Pentecost

The Vlad-less Fisher Cats couldn’t muster much offense in the second half of the double header, losing 5-1 to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. The club had just six hits including two each from Jonathan Davis and Max Pentecost. Connor Panas hit a double and took a walk while Patrick Cantwell was 1/1 with a walk and an RBI.

Josh DeGraaf couldn’t get out of the second inning, getting charged with all five runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings. Travis Bergen went 2 1/3, allowing the runner he inherited from DeGraaf to score but otherwise was solid, allowing two hits and striking out three. Danny Young pitched a scoreless fifth, giving up two hits and striking out one while Andrew Case closed it out, giving up a hit and a walk in the sixth.

Dunedin Blue Jays 5, Tampa Tarpons 7

Despite scoring five runs in the fifth inning or later, the Dunedin Blue Jays fell too far behind and allowed the Tampa Tarpons to add to their tally late in the game in a 7-5 loss. D.J. Davis went deep for the Blue Jays, going 2/4 with the solo blast. Rodrigo Orozco (2/4, R, SB) and Nash Knight (2/5, R) each had two hits. Kacy Clemens was 1/2 with a walk, a single, a hit-by-pitch, and a sacrifice fly. Ivan Castillo was 1/4 with a double, a walk and an RBI and John La Prise was 0/2 but walked twice and drove in a run.

Angel Perdomo, just named to the Florida State League All-Star game, gave up five runs on five hits (including two home runs) while striking out six in six innings, taking his third loss of the year (without a win). Juliandry Higuera went a scoreless seventh, giving up a hit and Connor Eller allowed a run on two hits and a walk in the eighth. Pitching the ninth inning, Ty Tice allowed a solo home run and a walk.

Lansing Lugnuts 8, Dayton Dragons 11

 

While they got down early, the Lansing Lugnuts did their best to mount a comeback, falling short when all was said and done and falling 11-8 to the Dayton Dragons. The Lugnuts were quite early facing flamethrower Hunter Greene who struck out eight in five innings despite giving up a home run to Samad Taylor. Norberto Obeso was 3/4 with two runs while Andres Sotillo was 2/4 with two doubles and two runs. Cullen Large hit his fourth home run of the year (and second in as many games), going 2/5 with a double, two RBI and two runs. Taylor was 1/3 with the solo blast and Reggie Pruitt had two sacrifice flies. Brock Lundquist was 1/4 with a walk and an RBI and Chavez Young was 1/4 with a walk, two RBI, a run and a stolen base.

Maverik Buffo, chasing his eighth win of the year, was drubbed for eight runs on eight hits (including three home runs) and a walk with four strikeouts in four innings. Andrew Deramo got tagged for three runs (two earned) on two hits with a strikeout in two innings and Brody Rodning surrendered a hit and a walk with a strikeout in the final two frames.
