With All-Star weekend upon us in the major leagues, the Dominican Summer League finally got under way with the Blue Jays winning their first game.

Buffalo Bisons 9, Lehigh Valley IronPigs (PHI) 2

The Buffalo Bisons (35-24) banged out three home runs on their way to a 9-2 victory over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.

Dilson Herrera had one of those home runs, going 1/4 with two runs scored and one RBI while Kevin Smith hit his 13th of the year, going 1/3 with three RBI, a walk and two runs. Christian Colon was 1/4 with a home run and two RBI. Alejandro Kirk was 2/4 with an RBI and a run, hitting a double while Breyvic Valera was 2/5 with an RBI and a run. Richard Urena was 2/4 with a double and Logan Warmoth was 1/4 with a run.

Bowden Francis, making his first start for the Bisons after coming over in the Rowdy Tellez trade, had a solid start, throwing five innings and giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks, striking out four. Dany Jimenez allowed a hit in the sixth, striking out two and Trent Thornton gave up two hits and a walk but didn’t give up a run in the seventh. Patrick Murphy struck out two in 1 1/3 innings and John Axford finished it, retiring both batters he faced.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 10, Hartford Yard Goats (COL) 5

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (26-32) notched their second game in a row with 10 runs or more as they doubled up the Hartford Yard Goats 10-5.

Vinny Capra continues to murder the baseball and went 2/3 with two home runs, two walks, four RBI and two runs to push his OPS to 1.111. Tanner Kirwer also had two hits, going 2/3 with a walk, an RBI, three runs and three stolen bases. Chavez Young was 2/5 with an RBI and Otto Lopez was 2/5 with three RBI and a run. LJ Talley was 1/4 with two runs and Rodrigo Vigil was 2/4 with a run. Demi Orimoloye was 0/4 but walked, scored and stole a base. Jordan Groshans left the game after going 0/2.

Maximo Castillo struck out eight batters in 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on two hits and three walks. Marcus Reyes was credited for a blown save, allowing all three inherited runners to score as he walked two and gave up a hit in 2/3 of an inning. Emerson Jimenez allowed two more runs on two hits and two walks with one strikeout in the seventh but got credit for the win while Fitz Stadler allowed a walk and nothing more, picking up a save over two innings and striking out three.

Vancouver Canadians 0, Hillsboro Hops (ARI) 2

The Vancouver Canadians (31-31) couldn’t find their offense, falling 2-0 to the Hillsboro Hops.

The Canadians had just four hits including a double from Ryan Gold (1/3) and Rafael Lantigua (1/4) and singles from Tanner Morris (1/3, BB) and Eric Rivera (1/3).

Starter Paxton Schultz had a solid game, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in five innigns of work while Adrian Hernandez struck out another five batters in three innings, walking two and allowing only one hit.

Roster Notes: Will Robertson was sent to the FCL Blue Jays on a rehab assignment.

Dunedin Blue Jays 6, Clearwater Threshers (PHI) 2

The Dunedin Blue Jays (25-36) brought some lumber to Clearwater as they beat the Threshers 6-2.

Shortstop Orelvis Martinez broke through with a huge game for the Blue Jays, going 4/5 with two home runs, two RBI and two runs and Miguel Hiraldo also had a big game, going 3/5 with a home run, a triple, two RBI and a run. Dasan Brown was 1/5 and P.K. Morris was 1/4 with a walk and a run. Zach Britton was 1/3 with a double and a walk and Harrison Ray was 1/4 with a walk, a run and a stolen base. Anthony Morales was 1/4 with an RBI.

Trent Palmer was on the mound to start, going three scoreless innings, giving up just one hit but he walked three and struck out one. Wilgenis Alvarado tossed four more innings, giving up an unearned run on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts and Jefferson Herrera threw thef inal two innings, allowing a run on two hits with two walks and one strikeout.

FCL Blue Jays 6, FCL Tigers East 5

The FCL Blue Jays (6-4) found a more worthy opponent in the FCL Tigers East but still finished on top 6-5 thanks to two runs in the top of the ninth.

Emmanuel Sanchez led the way with three hits, going 3/5 with an RBI and a run and adding a stolen base. Glenn Santiago was 2/4 with a double and two RBI while Angel Del Rosario was 2/5 with a run and two stolen bases. Rehabbing Will Robertson was 1/4 with a triple, a walk, an RBI and two runs and Marcos De La Rosa was 1/3 with a walk and an RBI, stealing two bases. Rikelvin De Castro was 0/3 but walked, scored a run and stole a base.

Starting on the mound was Jonatan Bernal who allowed two runs on four hits with a walk and four strikeouts in five innings. Yunior Lara allowed three runs on two hits and a walk with a strikeout over 1 1/3 innings while Jiorgeny Casimiri allowed his inherited runner to score but wasn’t charged with a run, allowing a hit and striking out two in 1 2/3 innings. Tony Rosario got the save, walking two in the ninth.
