Friday was a rough day for the Blue Jays’ minor leaguers, picking up just two wins, from the Buffalo Bisons and the DSL Blue Jays.

 

 

Buffalo Bisons 5, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 4

 

Facing former Bison Esmil Rogers, the Buffalo squad got just enough offense to pick up the win. Randy Wolf gave up all four runs over seven innings without walking anyone and striking out four while Blake McFarland went 1 1/3 scoreless innings and Bobby Korecky picked him up for the save.

Melky Mesa hit the club’s only home run, driving in a pair while Andy Burns, Matt Hague and Alex Hassan each had a pair of hits.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 1, New Britain 9

 

Murphy Smith started for the Fisher Cats and gave up six runs on eight hits over four innings while Dustin Antolin allowed a run over two innings and Cory Burns allowed two runs over one inning. Only Chad Girodo was able to get through his outing without giving up a run.

The offensive side of the game wasn’t much better with just six hits including two from Ian Parmley.

Dunedin Blue Jays 3, Jupiter Hammerheads 4

 

Sean Reid-Foley got the start for the D-Jays and struggled with his control, walking four batters and allowing four runs (three earned) over three innings despite striking out six. Matt Dermody relieved him with four strong innings, giving up just three hits and one walk while Arik Sikula finished off the game with two innings, walking just one and striking out two.

Mitch Nay was 2/2 with two walks and L.B. Dantzler was 2/4 with a double and an RBI. Anthony Alford was 1/4 with a double and a walk.

Lansing Lugnuts 1, Dayton Dragons 2

 

In a well-pitched game, Conor Fisk ended up on the losing side, going seven strong innings and allowing two runs on six hits and one walk with three strikeouts. Dusty Isaacs went one inning of perfect ball to finish the game.

With just eight hits over the entire game, the Lugnuts only scored once in teh loss thanks to David Harris who was 2/4 witha  double and an RBI. D.J. Davis was also 2/4 and stole his 13th base of the year.

Vancouver Canadians 2, Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 8

 

Francisco Rios made the start for the Vancouver Canadians but was hit hard early, giving up five runs on seven hits and two walks in just 1 1/3 innings. Josh DeGraaf fared a little bit better in his Vancouver debut, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk in 2 1/3 innings. Stuart Holmes, also making his Vancouver debut went 2 1/3 innings but only gave up two hits with four strikeouts and Michael Kraft finished the game over three innings without allowing a run, surrendering just three hits and a walk.

Justin Atkinson and Ryan Metzler each had two hits in the loss while Gunnar Heidt was 1/3 with an RBI and a walk. Gabriel Cenas was also 1/3 with a double and a walk.

Bluefield Blue Jays 2, Danville Braves 3

 

Dalton Rodriguez had a decent start for Bluefield, going five innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks to take the loss. Zak Wasilewski allowed just one walk over two innings and Tyler Burden walked two in his inning of work. The offense had just four hits including a single and a walk from Gabe Clark.

GCL Blue Jays 2, GCL Yankees1 13

 

The GCL Blue Jays got shellacked by the Yankees1 team with Osman Gutierrez taking the loss, givign up four runs in four innings. Kelyn Jose allowed another four runs (two earned) in two innings while Jonathan Torres had a pretty bad day, allowing five runs on six hits in just 1 2/3 innings before Juandy Mendoza finished the game with 1 1/3 innings. Lance Jones hit his first home run as a pro, driving in both runs.

DSL Blue Jays 9, DSL D-backs 6

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays picked up the second win of the day for the Blue Jays’ minor leagues thanks to a 13-hit offensive explosion. Jesus Navarro had four hits including a double and drove in three runs while Antonio Concepcion and Sam Buelens had two hits each with Buelens scoring twice, driving in a run, taking a walk and stealing a base. Center fielder Victor Figuereo was 1/2 with a walk and two stolen bases. Kevin Vicuna had a bad day at the office, making three throwing errors at shortstop.

Yonardo Herdenez picked up the win, pitching five innings and giving up three unearned runs on three hits and one walk with three strikeouts. Jairo Rosario was also touched for an unearned run while Wilmin Lara hit the only batter he faced. Jose Acosta picked up his first save of the season, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits with two strikeouts.
