Three double headers gave the Blue Jays’ affiliates 11 games on Saturday and they played to a combined 7-4 record.

 

Buffalo Bisons 1, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 3

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders defeated the Buffalo Bisons 3-1 in the first game of their double header. Danny Jansen provided two of the club’s three hits, going 2/3 with a double and a run while Tim Lopes was 1/3 with a single and the team’s only RBI. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 0/2 with a walk.

Matt Tracy started, giving up three runs (one earned) on nine hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Jose Fernandez tossed a scoreless sixth, giving up a hit and striking out three batters.

Buffalo Bisons 6, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 4

 

Richard Urena

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders couldn’t keep Vladimir Guerrero Jr. off the bases in Game 2 of the double header as the Buffalo Bisons won 6-4. Guerrero was 2/2 with two walks, an RBI and a run while Richard Urena was 2/3 with a walk, a home run and three RBI. Dwight Smith Jr. also had a pair of hits, going 2/4 with a run. Billy McKinney was 1/4 with a triple and an RBI. Roemon Fields was 1/3 with a double and an RBI.

Thomas Pannone allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and three walks but struck out seven in 4 2/3 innings. Conor Fisk got the win, giving up a pair of hits and picking up a pair of strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings and Justin Shafer got his 11th save, allowing a hit and a walk with two strikeouts in the seventh.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 7, Erie SeaWolves 2

Bo Bichette

Gunnar Heidt had all guns blazing as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats beat the Erie SeaWolves 7-2 in the first game of their double header. Heidt was 1/3 with his third home run of the season while Bo Bichette was 2/4 with a double, an RBI and two runs. Cavan Biggio also drove in two runs, going 1/3 with a walk.

Josh DeGraaf allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts over five innings and Corey Copping made his New Hampshire debut, striking out two in the sixth. Kirby Snead finished the game, striking out a pair in the seventh.

Roster Notes: The Fisher Cats sent Francisco Rios to the GCL to start a rehab assignment and activated Corey Copping. Ryan Hissey was placed on the 7-day DL and Patrick Cantwell was activated off the DL.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 1, Erie SeaWolves 8

Harold Ramirez

The Erie SeaWolves had the New Hampshire Fisher Cats’ number in the second game of the double header, scoring six runs in the sixth to seal an 8-1 win. Hector Perez made his first start for the Blue Jays’ minor league since coming over in the deadline deal and struck out seven in five innings, giving up two runs on three hits and four walks. Danny Young was charged with six runs (five earned) on five hits and a walk in 1/3 of an inning before Andrew Case closed it, giving up a hit and striking out one in 1 2/3 innings.

Cavan Biggio had a pair of hits including a double and an RBI while Harold Ramirez was 2/3.Bo Bichette was 1/4 with a run and a stolen base and Patrick Cantwell and Gunnar Heidt each added a single.

Dunedin Blue Jays 6, Charlotte Stone Crabs 5

 

Riley Adams

The Dunedin Blue Jays managed to hold off the Charlotte Stone Crabs to pick up their seventh win in a row, 6-5. Riley Adams was 4/4 with a double, an RBI and two runs while Brock Lundquist was 2/4 with a home run and two RBI with one of them coming from a sacrifice fly. Joshua Palacios also had two hits including a triple and drove in a run, scoring once. Rodrigo Orozco, Ivan Castillo and Kacy Clemens each were 1/3 with a walk.

Yennsy Diaz struck out nine batters in five-plus innings, giving up three runs on six hits (including a home run) and a walk. William Ouellette gave up a hit but allowed his inherited runner to score and Jake Fishman gave up a run on a walk with one strikeout, stranding his inherited runner in 1 1/3 innings. Claudio Custodio allowed a run of his own but allowed a runner left for him by Fishman to score, giving up two hits and a walk with one strikeout in one inning. Jackson McClelland came in with two runners on and walked one but got the two outs to earn his eighth save of the season, hitting a reported 99 mph on the radar gun.

Roster Notes: The Dunedin Blue Jays swapped a catcher with the Lansing Lugnuts, sending Andres Sotillo to Lansing with Owen Spiwak coming back to Dunedin.

Lansing Lugnuts 5, Fort Wayne TinCaps 3

 

Chavez Young

“Master” Ryan Noda went deep for the Lansing Lugnuts, as did Chavez Young as the Lugs beat the Fort Wayne TinCaps 5-3. Noda was 1/3 with a walk and two RBI and an outfield assist while Young was 1/3 with a walk, two RBI and two runs. Norberto Obeso and Ryan Gold each had a single.

Maximo Castillo had a solid start, tossing five innings with three runs allowed (one earned), giving up eight hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Brody Rodning pitched two perfect innings, striking out three and Dany Jimenez saved the game with two innings of work, striking out two.

Roster Notes: Owen Spiwak was promoted to Dunedin with Andres Sotillo coming back to the Lugnuts from Dunedin.

Vancouver Canadians 2, Hillsboro Hops 0

 

With a run in the first inning and another in the ninth, the Vancouver Canadians bookended the Hillsboro Hops in a 2-0 victory on Saturday. Josh Winckowski provided six scoreless innings, allowing only three hits and two walks with seven strikeouts to even his record at 4-4. Joey Pulido went the next two frames, giving up two hits with a walk and a strikeout and Cobi Johnson struck out two in the ninth for the save.

The Canadians had just three hits including a triple from Yorman Rodriguez who was 1/3 with a walk and a run, a double from Jake Brodt who drove in a run and a single from Jesus Severino, who also drove in a run.

Bluefield Blue Jays 5, Danville Braves 0

Eric Pardinho

Eric Pardinho showed that his rough start in his last outing was just a blip on the radar as the Bluefield Blue Jays eased to a 5-0 win in the first half of their double header against the Danville Braves. Pardinho, the Brazilian 17-year-old tossed five shutout innings, giving up just five hits and a walk with six strikeouts. Andy McGuire, the two-way player just drafted this year, earned his first professional save, pitching the final two innings, facing just the minimum of six batters and striking out three of them.

Cal Stevenson did a lot of damage out of the leadoff spot, going 2/3 with a double, a triple and two runs. Dominic Abbadessa was 0/3 but drive in a pair of runs and Alejandro Kirk was 1/3 with his eighth home run of the year, driving in two. D.J. Neal was 1/2 with a walk, an RBI, a run and a stolen base and Patrick Morris hit a double.

Bluefield Blue Jays 1, Danville Braves 3

Two runs in the eighth inning for the Danville Braves gave them a 3-1 win over the Bluefield Blue Jays in Game 2 of their double header on Saturday. Claudio Galva allowed just one run on three hits and a run with six strikeouts over five innings. Brad Wilson provided two perfect innings, striking out two before Jackson Rees took the loss, giving up two unearned runs on two walks with two strikeouts in one inning.

The Blue Jays had just two hits including a triple from Alejandro Kirk and a single and RBI from Luis De Los Santos who hit a sacrifice fly.

GCL Blue Jays 2, GCL Pirates 5

 

The GCL Blue Jays lost to the GCL Pirates 5-2 on Saturday. Jonelvy Molina was 3/5 and Adrian Ramos was 2/4 with a walk, a run and a stolen base. Joseph Reyes was 1/3 with a walk and a sacrifice fly while Jose Abel Hernandez was 1/3 with a walk. Warnel Valdez was 1/5 with a double.

Shawn Morimando made another rehab appearance, giving up a run on three hits in the first inning. Also making a rehab appearance was Francisco Rios who gave up a solo home run in an inning, striking out two. Alejandro Melean allowed three unearned runs, giving up two hits and two walks in 1 2/3 innings, striking out two before Franniel Polanco stranded two runners, giving up just one hit over 3 1/3 innings, striking out four. Yunior Hinojosa pitched two innings, giving up just a hit.

Roster Notes: Francisco Rios was sent to the GCL Blue Jays for a rehab assignment.

DSL Blue Jays 5, DSL D-backs1 3

 

With three runs in the eighth inning (and one in the ninth), the DSL Blue Jays beat the DSL D-backs1 5-3 on Saturday. Jhon Solarte had another solid game, going 2/4 with a double, two RBI and a run. Erickvi Celedonio was 2/4 with a double and an RBI while Rainer Nunez, Pedro Hurtado and Geyber Jimenez each had a single and a run with Jimenez adding a walk and committing an error while Hurtado committed two errors.

Lazaro Estrada is quickly becoming one of the up-and-coming pitchers for the DSL Blue Jays, tossing four innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits with six strikeouts. Jeison Contreras threw two innings, giving up two hits and striking out one. Nelfi Santos got the win, giving up an unearned run on a hit with two strikeouts in one inning in his first professional appearance and Pedro Guzman allowed two hits and struck out two in two innings to get the save.
