With the minor league season finished, Minor League Baseball (MiLB) have announced their nominees for the 2013 MiLBY Awards and the Blue Jays minor leaguers can be found all over the place.
First of all, follow the link above to go to see the awards, including video clips, and to register your votes!
In the “Best Plays” category, there are two that involve Baby Jays. The first is Anthony Gose‘s spectacular steal of home against Jake Arrieta of the Norfolk Tides. The second is Daniel Norris‘s head-saving catch on a line drive up the middle off the bat of David Gonzalez of the West Michigan Whitecaps. I don’t know which one to vote for — they’re both spectacular plays.
In the “Best Home Run” category, Buffalo shortstop Ryan Goins is nominated for his literal run home, hitting an inside-the-park home run against the Durham Bulls. There isn’t any Blue Jays competition against Goins in that category so vote for him!
In the “Best Moment” category, Dalton Pompey‘s walk off hit in the Midwest League All-Star game is the first one listed. In the “Best Blooper” category, the walk-off, intentional walk wild pitch thrown by New Hampshire’s Alan Farina was nominated. Vote for that and help enshrine that bizarre play in MiLBY history.
While that’s all for Blue Jays content, there were a couple of notable omissions. Santiago Nessy‘s baserunning boner, in which he forgot to run to second base on what would have been a game-winning, walk-off hit by Chris Hawkins wasn’t listed in the “Blooper” category. Emilio Guerrero‘s six-hit game (that included a grand slam) also was omitted in the “Best Game” category when many of the other achievements listed were individual ones.
Visit the MiLBYs website to vote — Voting ends on October 22!
