In playoff action, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats got off to a flying start in their series against the Trenton Thunder while the Lansing Lugnuts dropped a squeaker in extra innings in Lansing.

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 8, Trenton Thunder 0

 

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats opened their playoffs with a bang, shutting out the Trenton Thunder 8-0 on the back of a stellar start by T.J. Zeuch. Zeuch tossed six scoreless innings, giving up eight hits and one walk and striking out five. Kirby Snead walked two and struck out four in 1 1/3 innings and Dusty Isaacs struck out the only batter he faced. Travis Bergen struck out three in 1 1/3 innings, allowing a hit and a walk.

The Fisher Cats had nine hits with Bo Bichette (2/5, 2B, 2 RBI, R), Harold Ramirez (2/4, 2B, BB, 2 R, SB) and Max Pentecost (2/4, RBI) getting two hits each. Jon Berti was on base three times, going 1/3 with a walk, a hit-by-pitch, two RBI, a run and a stolen base. Cavan Biggio drove in two runs, going 1/3 with a double, a walk and a run and Joshua Palacios was 1/3 with an RBI, a run and a sac bunt.

Lansing Lugnuts 3, Bowling Green Hot Rods 4

 

Andres Sotillo

Facing the Bowling Green Hot Rods, an opponent whom they’ve always struggled against, the Lansing Lugnuts kept things close, scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game up but they lost by one run in 10 innings, 4-3. Andres Sotillo got the Lugnuts on the board with a solo home run in the fifth, going 2/4 while Norberto Obeso was 1/4 with a triple and two RBI in the eighth. Samad Taylor was 1/4 with a double and Vinny Capra had the club’s fifth hit, going 1/4 with a run.

Maximo Castillo kept the club in the game through 5 2/3 innings, allowing a solo home run among two hits and a walk with one strikeout. Brody Rodning allowed a run on two walks and a hit in 1 1/3 innings and Emerson Jimenez gave up an unearned run on two hits in two innings. Matt Shannon took the loss, giving up a run on two hits and a walk with one strikeout in the 10th.
