With five games for the Blue Jays’ minor leagues on the slate, three of them ended in heart-breaking losses for the good guys while one was a blowout loss and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats won their final home game of the season.
Buffalo Bisons 2, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 12
The Buffalo Bisons scored just two runs in 11 hits but allowed 12 on 19 hits as they fell to the Yankees’ top farm club on Thursday. Ty Kelly, who was DFA’ed and then sent to Buffalo outright was 5/5 for the Herd while Matt Hague and Andy Burns had two hits each. Andrew Albers was tagged for seven runs on 10 hits in just four innings while John Anderson, making his Bisons debut, gave up three runs including a two-run homer. Colt Hynes allowed two more runs over two innings and Greg Burke pitched a scoreless eighth.
Roster Notes: Colt Hynes was sent outright to Buffalo.
Player of the Game: Ty Kelly
New Hampshire Fisher Cats 4, Portland Sea Dogs 3
20-year-old righty Conner Greene fought through control problems early but came out on top with his third win in a Fisher Cats’ uniform. Greene threw 66 pitches (38 for strikes), getting through six innings before leaving the game having allowed one run on five hits and three walks. Greg Infante pitched to just four batters in the seventh, walking three and getting charged with two runs while Cory Burns put out the fire, getting through the inning. Blake McFarland threw two innings of one-hit ball, finishing the game for his 15th save.
Dwight Smith, Jr. was 3/4 with a double and a run while Kevin Nolan drove home a pair. Roemon Fields was 1/3 with a walk and had an outfield assist.

Dunedin Blue Jays 8, Clearwater Threshers 9
Despite bashing three home runs as a squad, the Blue Jays fell a run short of the Clearwater Threshers, losing 9-8 after a valiant but failed comeback attempt in the ninth. Anthony Alford (2/5, 3 R, HR, 2 RBI), Matt Dean (2/4, BB, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, R) and Jorge Saez (1/3, HR, RBI, R) each hit a home run while Dickie Joe Thon added two hits and a stolen base and L.B. Dantzler scored twice. Andy Fermin was also 1/4 with a walk and two RBI.
Alonzo Gonzalez was roughed up over four innings, giving up five earned runs on eight hits and two walks. Brad Allen took the loss, giving up a run on two hits and two walks in three innings while Luis Santos gave up a run in his inning and Brady Dragmire allowed two runs in his inning.
Roster Notes: IF Christian Vazquez was promoted to Dunedin from Lansing.
Player of the Game: Anthony Alford and Matt Dean
Lansing Lugnuts 5, Great Lakes Loons 6
In the second game of a preview of their upcoming playoff series, the Lansing Lugnuts staged a comeback but didn’t go far enough to overcome a two-run lead, finishing a run behind the Great Lakes Loons. Chris Carlson was 3/5 with a triple, a run, an RBI, an error and an outfield assist while Austin Davis was 2/4 with a double and a run. Ryan McBroom was 1/4 with an RBI and David Harris was 1/3 with an RBI while Jason Leblebijian was 1/3 with a walk.
Starlyn Suriel started and gave up five runs on eight hits (including two home runs) in just 3 2/3 innings. Colton Turner provided 2 1/3 innings of one-run relief while Phil Kish was excellent, giving up just a run and a walk over three innings, striking out three.
Roster Notes: IF Christian Vazquez was promoted to Dunedin.
Player of the Game: Chris Carlson
Vancouver Canadians 1, Tri-City Dust Devils 2
The Vancouver Canadians’ bullpen failed to hold down a one-run lead as the club was one-hit despite coming one inning away from a win. Despite walking five batters, Tayler Saucedo didn’t give up a run with four hits against him and two strikeouts in five innings. Sean Ratcliffe pitched two scoreless innings, giving up three hits while Tyler Burden got through the eighth in perfect form. Andrew Case allowed two runs in the bottom of the ninth for the walkoff loss. Catcher Josh Reavis had the only hit for the Canadians.
