September 15, 2021 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

There were several superlatives in the Toronto Blue Jays’ minor league system on Wednesday as the clubs went 2-3 in five games.

Buffalo Bisons 20, Rochester Red Wings (WAS) 3

The Buffalo Bisons (70-43) dominated the Rochester Red Wings in every way, beating them 20-3 on Wednesday.

Third baseman Kevin Smith led the way for the offense, going 5/7 with a double, two RBI and four runs while Otto Lopez was 4/6 with two doubles, a home run, a walk, two RBI and five runs scored. Cavan Biggio also hit a home run, going 3/5 with a walk, five RBI and four runs. Gregory Polanco was 2/3 with a home run, a double, four RBI and a run and Logan Warmoth came on for him, going 1/2 with two walks, an RBI and two runs, stealing a base. Forrest Wall was 2/6 with a double, a walk, two RBI and his 30th stolen base. Tyler White was 2/4 with two walks and a run and Cullen Large was 2/4 with two walks and an RBI. Juan Graterol also had two hits, going 2/6 with an RBI and a run.

Starter Casey Lawrence scattered eight hits and allowing three runs, walking one and striking out six in five innings. Jacob Waguespack (1 IP, 1 K), Tayler Saucedo (1 IP, 1 H, 2 K), Rafael Dolis (1 IP, 3 K) and Anthony Castro (1 IP, 2 K) finished it off.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Harrisburg Senators (WAS)

Game Cancelled due to rain.

Roster Notes: James Dykstra was activated off the 60-day injured list and Connor Law was activated.

Vancouver Canadians 2, Hillboro Hops (ARI) 3

The Vancouver Canadians (54-62) weren’t able to come back in the bottom of the ninth, scoring once but still lost 3-2 to the Hillsboro Hops.

Right fielder Eric Rivera had a pair of hits, going 2/3 with a run and an outfield assist while Philip Clarke was 1/4 with a double and a run. PK Morris was 1/4 and Tanner Morris was 1/4 with an RBI. Zac Cook and Will Robertson were both 1/4.

Starter Alex Nolan allowed three runs but only was was earned, giving up three hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings. Will McAffer went 2 1/3 innings, striking out three and allowing just a hit while Gabriel Ponce walked one and struck out two in the eighth. Jol Concepcion pitched the ninth and walked one and struck out one.

Dunedin Blue Jays 3, Clearwater Threshers (PHI) 6

In the first game of their double header, the Dunedin Blue Jays (54-61) fell 6-3 to the Clearwater Threshers.

On the offensive side, Dasan Brown had two of the club’s four hits, going 2/2 with a walk, two stolen bases and two runs. Steward Berroa was 1/2 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and a run while Miguel Hiraldo drove in two runs but was 0/3. Mackenzie Mueller was 1/3.

Starter Rafael Ohashi took the loss, giving up four runs on three hits with five walks and five strikeouts in four innings. Harry Rutkowski allowed a run on three hits with three strikeouts in two innings and Colton Laws allowed a run on two hits in the final inning.

Dunedin Blue Jays 3, Clearwater Threshers (PHI) 0

The second game of the double header was all Blue Jays (55-61) as Trent Palmer threw his second seven-inning no-hitter in the last month for a 3-0 win over the Clearwater Threshers.

Palmer needed 90 pitches (57 strikes) to get through seven innings, allowing just two walks and striking out nine batters for a second no no.

Dasan Brown was 1/3 with a run in this one and Leonardo Jimenez was 1/1 with a double and two walks, scoring once. Miguel Hiraldo was 1/3 while Riley Tirotta was 0/3 with an RBI. Adriel Sotolongo was 1/3 with a double and two RBI.

FCL Blue Jays 3, FCL Tigers West 6

The FCL Blue Jays (24-27) couldn’t manage enough offense, falling 6-3 to the FCL Tigers West.

Rehabbing Mallex Smith was rehabbing and playing center field with the Blue Jays and went 0/2 with two walks and a stolen base (but was also caught stealing). Jaden Rudd was also 0/2 but had an RBI and two walks. Amell Brazoban was 1/4 with a double while Rikelvin De Castro was 1/2 with a home run and a walk, driving in one and scoring twice.Yhon Perez was 1/3 with an RBI.

The starter was Soenni Martinez who went two innings, allowing a run on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Wilgenis Alvarado took the loss, going 1 1/3 innings and giving up four runs on three hits and four walks with one strikeout. Bejardi Meza allowed a run on five hits with a walk and a strikeout over the final 2 2/3 innings.
