1-3 was Tuesday’s record for the Blue Jays’ minor league clubs; the New Hampshire Fisher Cats’ extra-inning win was the only victory for the Baby Jays.

 

Buffalo Bisons 2, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 5

 

After winning Game 1 of their series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, the Buffalo Bisons fell 5-2 in the second game on Tuesday. Roberto Hernandez allowed three runs in five innings but it was a two-run home run by Gary Sanchez that did most of the damage as he allowed only three hits and one walk overall with four strikeouts. Chad Jenkins allowed two runs to score in 1 2/3 innings and left the bases loaded for Pat McCoy who stranded them all on base, giving up no runs on two hits and a walk in 1 1/3 innings. David Aardsma pitched a perfect ninth to finish the game.

Domonic Brown led the offense with a 2/4 game that included a run and a double while Casey Kotchman and Alexi Casilla each had a hit and an RBI. David Adams was on twice with a single and a walk.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 4, Reading Fightin Phils 3

 

Just when it looked like the New Hampshire Fisher Cats would lose another close game, an RBI single by Dwight Smith, Jr. drove home Ian Parmley‘s double in the bottom of the 10th to help the club to a 4-3 victory over the Reading Fightin Phils. For Parmley, it was his second hit of the game and he added two walks, getting on base four times to raise his average to .279 and his OBP to .380. Matt Dean also added a single and a double as well as a walk and drove in two runs.

Casey Lawrence had another strong start, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and no walks with two strikeouts in six innings while Daniel Schlereth allowed the third run in 2/3 of an inning, leaving another two on for John Stilson who escaped without any further damage, throwing 1 1/3 innings of no-hit ball, walking one and striking out one. Murphy Smith earned the win with two scoreless innings, lowering his ERA to 0.61 and giving up just one hit while striking out four.

Dunedin Blue Jays 2, Brevard County Manatees 7

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays couldn’t match the Brevard County Manatees in a 10:37 AM start time, with starter Kyle Westwood getting hammered in a 7-2 loss. Westwood went six innings, sticking it out but he was hit for three home runs among 10 hits and six runs in six innings. Jose Fernandez provided one inning of scoreless relief, walking one while Bo Schultz struck out two but gave up an unearned run in his inning.

The hitters couldn’t capitalize for more than two runs on nine hits, striking out 13 times in the game and going 2/6 with runners in scoring position. Richard Urena had a day, going 4/4 while Dickie Joe Thon had the only extra-base hit of the game, a double, and a stolen base. Anthony Alford struck out four times and Jonathan Davis added a hat trick.

Lansing Lugnuts 0, Cedar Rapids Kernels 3

 

The Cedar Rapids Kernels must have rolled out of bed a little earlier than the Lansing Lugnuts as they blanked the home squad 3-0 in a morning start. The Lugnuts got only seven hits including two from red-hot Andrew Guillote who was 2/4 and Lane Thomas who was also 2/4.

Conor Fisk got the start and was excellent through five innings, giving up only two hits and one walk and striking out five. Josh DeGraaf took the loss, allowing all three runs on five hits (including two home runs) in 3 1/3 innings with two strikeouts. Daniel Lietz allowed an inherited runner to score but gave up just one hit in 2/3 of an inning.
