The New Hampshire Fisher Cats won the only game in the Blue Jays’ system on Wednesday despite all four full-season minor league affiliates in action.

 

Buffalo Bisons 2, Syracuse Chiefs 7

The Buffalo Bisons had their winning streak snapped, losing 7-2 to the Syracuse Chiefs. The Bisons had just five hits including two from Ian Parmley who had a triple and a run while Rowdy Tellez was 1/4 with a double, Richard Urena was 1/4 with an RBI and Anthony Alford was 1/4.

Ryan Borucki started, tossing 5 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on four hits and four walks with six strikeouts and throwing 101 pitches. While he might have pitched a little longer, his night was finished when he was ejected by the first base umpire in the sixth along with pitching coach Bob Stanley who was ejected by the home plate umpire. Tim Mayza came in, tossing 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, stranding his two inherited runners and striking out a pair with one walk. Murphy Smith came on to finish the game, allowing four runs (three earned) on two hits and two walks with one strikeout.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 7, Reading Fightin Phils 2

 

There was a little bit of deja vu as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats beat the Reading Fightin Phils 7-2 on Wednesday, the exact same score as they won by on Tuesday. Cavan Biggio had a huge game, going 3/5 with a double and a triple, driving in three runs and scoring twice while stealing a base. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. bumped his batting average up to .425 with a 2/4 game, hitting his 17th double of the year, adding a walk and scoring a run. Jonathan Davis was 2/5 with two doubles, an RBI and a run. Juan Kelly hit his fourth home run of the year, going 1/2 with two walks.

T.J. Zeuch was strong on the mound, going seven innings and giving up two runs on a two-run home run in the sixth, walking two, allowing eight hits and striking out six. Andrew Case finished the game, striking out four in two innings and giving up two hits and two walks.

Dunedin Blue Jays 6, Florida Fire Frogs 7

After scoring just three runs in a double header on Tuesday, the Dunedin Blue Jays scored six on Wednesday but still lost 7-6 to the Florida Fire Frogs in 10 innings. Randal Grichuk, rehabbing from his oblique injury hit a home run, going 1/3 with two RBI. Kacy Clemens was 2/5 with a run and Joshua Palacios was 1/4 with an RBI, a run and a pair of stolen bases. Eduard Pinto was on twice, going 1/3 with a walk, a double, an RBI, a run and a stolen base.

Matthew Gunter got the start, giving up six runs (four earned) on seven hits (including two home runs) and one walk with four strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings. Juliandry Higuera walked four but didn’t give up a hit over three innings, striking out two. Ty Tice took the loss in the 10th, allowing a hit and letting the placed runner score from second base despite striking out two batters and only allowing one hit in 2 1/3 innings.

Lansing Lugnuts 0, South Bend Cubs 1

 

In a tightly-played pitcher’s duel, the Lansing Lugnuts came up short, losing 1-0 to the South Bend Cubs. Zach Logue threw a complete game, giving up just one solo home run among three hits while striking out four in his eight innings.

Kevin Smith had two of the club’s four hits, going 2/4 with two doubles while Brock Lundquist (1/3, BB) and Andres Sotillo (1/2) had the other two.
