The Blue Jays’ minor league clubs won just one game on Saturday, seeing a successful evening from the Dunedin Blue Jays.

 

Buffalo Bisons 4, Pawtucket Red Sox 7

 

Scott Diamond had a rare poor outing for the Buffalo Bisons and took the loss in a 7-4 defeat to the Pawtucket Red Sox. Diamond allowed five runs on nine hits and three walks over 5 2/3 innings with two strikeouts. David Aardsma inherited the bases loaded but couldn’t keep them from scoring, allowing those three runs plus one of his own on three hits and a walk in 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts. Chad Jenkins also allowed a run, giving up two hits but struck out the side in his inning while Pat McCoy had a perfect inning in the ninth.

Jesus Montero was 2/4 with a solo home run while Andy Burns was also 2/4, scoring a run. Devon Travis continued his rehab, hitting a double and scoring, going 1/4.

Roster Notes: Bo Schultz‘s rehab time came to an end when the Blue Jays optioned him to Buffalo. Aaron Loup was assigned to Buffalo to continue his rehab.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3, Hartford Yard Goats 5

 

Luis Santos had a decent start for the Fisher Cats but ended up giving up two home runs and four runs to take the loss as the Fisher Cats fell 5-3 to the Hartford Yard Goats. Santos ended up with four runs on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts over six innings before Danny Barnes took over, giving up one unearned run on four hits with two strikeouts over two innings. Murphy Smith gave up a hit and struck out one in the ninth.

Dwight Smith and Jorge Flores had two hits each with Flores going 2/4 with two doubles and Smith going 2/4 with a run and an RBI, adding a stolen base. Matt Dean was 1/4 with a double and Jorge Saez his hit second home run of the year, going 1/4 with the solo blast.

Dunedin Blue Jays 3, Bradenton Marauders 1

 

Anthony Alford and Chris Rowley stepped up for the Dunedin Blue Jays on Saturday in a 3-1 victory over the Bradenton Marauders. Rowley has moved into the starting rotation and threw six innings of scoreless ball, giving up three hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Adonys Cardona struggled in his inning, getting only two outs and giving up a run on a hit and two walks with one strikeout. Matt Dermody earned the save, stranding two runners left on by Cardona in the seventh and then throwing two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out one.

On the hitting side, the Blue Jays struck out 15 times as a club but Anthony Alford was 3/5 with a run while Dickie Joe Thon hit his first home run of the season, going 1/4 with a walk. D.J. Davis was 1/4 with a walk and an RBI (but with three strikeouts).

Lansing Lugnuts 4, Great Lakes Loons 5

 

The Lansing Lugnuts tried to catch up, scoring runs in the eighth and ninth and closing the Great Lakes Loons’ lead to just one run but it wasn’t enough as the fell 5-4 on Saturday. Sean Reid-Foley struggled on the mound in the fifth inning. He gave up a solo home run in the second inning and worked his way out of a jam in the third but cruised through the fourth, striking out two of the three batters who came to the plate. In the fifth, however, Reid-Foley gave up a leadoff single and, after retiring the next two batters, walked the next two before surrendering a grand slam to Ariel Sandoval. Reid-Foley walked one more and gave up a hit before he was relieved by Starlyn Suriel who struck out a batter to finish the inning and end the threat. In total, Reid-Foley was charged with five runs on six hits and four walks despite striking out six in 4 2/3 innings. Suriel finished the game, throwing 3 1/3 scoreless innings of two-hit ball, walking one and striking out three.

The Lugnuts combined for 10 hits, getting two each from Andrew Guillotte (2/5, 2 RBI, R), Max Pentecost (2/4, BB) and Gunnar Heidt (2/4, 2B, RBI). Juan Kelly had another good game, going 1/3 with a double and two walks, driving in a run and scoring one.
