In all, Anderson allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts in six innings. He was followed by Chris Smith who struck out the side in the seventh, Danny Barnes who allowed one hit in the eighth and Wil Browning who picked up his sixth save with a perfect ninth.

Lansing Lugnuts 5, South Bend Cubs 0

The Lansing pitching staff was in full flight on Thursday but it was the return to action of a highly touted prospect that got people talking in Lansing. Jon Harris threw the first five innings, allowing just two hits and two walks with two strikeouts and Angel Perdomo put on another clinic, throwing four hitless innings, walking one and striking out seven.

Max Pentecost made his return to baseball since injuries had sidelined him for all of 2015. Pentecost made his presence felt immediately, hitting third and being used as the DH. In his first at bat, he drove in a run with a single and hit a home run in his second at bat. Pentecost finished the day 3/4 with a home run and two RBI while Gunnar Heidt was 2/3 with a double. Josh Almonte drove in two runs with a double.
