Buffalo Bisons 9, Durham Bulls 4


After not scoring in two consecutive games in Norfolk, the Buffalo Bisons returned home and unleashed a 17-hit attack on the Durham Bulls, taking a 9-4 victory that featured a strong performance from Daniel Norris. Norris allowed all four runs but two were earned and he allowed just five hits and three walks in 6 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts. Chad Jenkins and Luis Perez finished the game off with 2 2/3 innings (combined) of scoreless ball.

Another exiled Blue Jays, Dalton Pompey, led the offensive attack with four hits including a double while he stole a base, drove in a run and scored three times. Caleb Gindl had three RBI with three hits (two singles and a double) and Brad Glenn (2/4, 2B, BB, RBI, 2 R), Chris Dickerson (2/5, RBI, R) and MattĀ  Hague (2/5, R) had a pair of hits each. Sean Ochinko also drove in a pair with a double.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 4, New Britain Rock Cats 5

Despite a late rally for two runs in the bottom of the ninth, the damage was done against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats early with four runs allowed in the second inning against starter Austin Bibens-Dirkx. Bibens-Dirkx only lasted two innings despite four strikeouts while Cory Burns pitched another two with three walks and two hits accounting for another run. Danny Barnes continues his masterful season, lowering his ERA to 0.56 with 2 2/3 hitless innings with just one walk and five strikeouts. Greg Burke and Blake McFarland finished off the game for the Fisher Cats.

Pierce Rankin and Jorge Flores were the offensive leaders, getting two hits each with Rankin adding a walk. Flores pushes his batting average to .350 on the season while Rankin is hitting .385 in a more limited role.

Roster Note: Andy Fermin was promoted to New Hampshire.

Dunedin Blue Jays 5, Fort Myers Miracle 2

The Blue Jays got a strong outing from Murphy Smith who went five innings, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Alberto Tirado followed, allowing just three hits in three innings with two strikeouts and Wil Browning notched his ninth save with an almost perfect ninth (he hit a batter).

L.B. Dantzler had a pair of hits and drove in a run while Matt Dean, Mitch Nay and Derrick Loveless each drove in another.

Roster Notes: Andy Fermin was promoted to New Hampshire. It’s been announced that Jeff Hoffman will make his pro debut for the Dunedin Blue Jays on May 20.

Lansing Lugnuts 4, South Bend Cubs 7

Chase De Jong got the start following an off day for the Lugnuts and was shelled early for five runs in the first two innings. De Jong allowed two home runs on the day and six runs in total coming from 10 hits but just one walk and he also struck out five. Carlos Ramirez finished the game off, allowing one run on one hit and two walks in 1 1/3 innings.

Gunnar Heidt is showing a lot more confidence with the bat lately and he approaches the Mendoza Line (at .198) with two hits (a single and a double) and two of Lansing’s four RBI. Jonathan Davis (J.D.) continues to make pitchers look silly with two more hits (now hitting .421) while Rowdy Tellez and Anthony Alford were on base three times each with a hit and two walks (Alford hit a double). D.J. Davis was 1/3 with an RBI, an outfield assist and was caught stealing while Tim Locastro was hit by a pitch (again) and stole a base.

Roster Notes: Jose Fernandez was activated off the DL and Conor Fisk was sent back to extended spring training.
