June 29, 2021 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

The Florida Complex League (FCL) got underway on Monday so we’re including the two games that the FCL Blue Jays have played in our summary today.

Buffalo Bisons 12, Lehigh Valley IronPigs (PHI) 2

The Buffalo Bisons (28-19) opened their series with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, beating them 12-2, getting strong work from the entire squad.

Starting on the mound was T.J. Zeuch who had a solid game with 5 2/3 innings of two-run ball, allowing eight hits (one HR) but without walking anyone and striking out five. Jeremy Beasley finished the sixth, allowing a hit and a walk while Kirby Snead (1 IP), Dany Jimenez (1 IP, 1 K) and Curtis Taylor (1 IP, 2 K) finished the game.

While he’s been getting more time at third base lately, Kevin Smith started in left field for the Bisons, going 2/4 with a home run, four RBI and two runs. Logan Warmoth also had two hits, going 2/4 with a double, three RBI and a run while Cullen Large was 2/4 with two runs. Rowdy Tellez hit his second Triple-A home run of the year, going 2/5 with an RBI and Dilson Herrera was 1/3 with a walk and two RBI. Danny Jansen began his rehab assignment, going 0/2 with two walks and two runs while Breyvic Valera was 1/4 with an RBI and a run. Alejandro Kirk also started his rehab assignment, going 0/2 with two walks, an RBI and a run, hitting a sac fly.

Roster Notes: Travis Bergen was assigned to the Buffalo Bisons but also DFA’ed when the Jays acquired Adam Cimber. Alejandro Kirk and Danny Jansen were sent to Buffalo on rehab assignments while Juan Graterol was suspended for an unknown number of days. Jonathan Davis was recalled by the Blue Jays.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 10, Portland Sea Dogs (BOS) 9

The Portland Sea Dogs jumped out to an early lead and it was a see-saw battle back and forth but the New Hampshire Fisher Cats’ (22-26) finished on top thanks to a walk-off single by L.J. Talley in the bottom of the 10th for a 10-9 win.

For Talley, it was his third hit of the game as he went 3/5 with two RBI, a walk and a run. Otto Lopez had another two hits, going 2/5 with a double and three RBI, scoring a run. Chavez Young was 2/5 with an RBI and a run while Jordan Groshans was 2/5 with two doubles and a run. Canadian Tanner Kirwer was 1/3 with a home run, two RBI, a sac fly and three runs scored while Samad Taylor was 1/4 with two walks and a run. Chris Bec was 1/4 with a walk, an RBI and a run, stealing a base while Vinny Capra was 1/5 and Nick Podkul was 1/2.

Starting on the mound was Johnny Barbato and he took a bit of a shelling allowing seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits (one HR) with three walks and two strikeouts but still managed to pitch 5 1/3 innings. Fitz Stadler allowed a hit in his 1 2/3 innings, striking out one and stranding two runners on base while Kyle Johnston threw two scoreless innings, giving up two hits and striking out three. Brody Rodning allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits with two strikeouts in the 10th.

Roster Notes: Cre Finfrock was assigned to New Hampshire from Dunedin and Andrew McInvale was traded in the deal that sent Joe Panik away.

Vancouver Canadians 10, Everett AquaSox (SEA) 15

It was a bit of a slugfest as the Vancouver Canadians (26-23) gave up eight runs in the first inning and were behind the eight-ball all day, losing 15-10 to the Everett AquaSox.

The offense was going strong with three hits from Ryan Gold who was 3/5 with a double, a home run, three rBI and a run. Spencer Horwitz had a pair of hits, going 2/4 with a home run, a walk, two RBI and a run. Cameron Eden also hit a home run, going 1/2 with two walks, three RBI, three runs and three stolen bases, giving him 30 on the year. Tanner Morris was 2/4 with a double, a triple, a walk, an RBI and two runs and Luis De Los Santos was 2/5 with a double, and two runs. Ronny Brito and Philip Clarke were both 1/5 with Clarke scoring a run.

On the mound, it got a little ugly with C.J. Van Eyk lasting just 2/3 of an inning and surrendering seven runs on four hits and three walks with one strikeout. Brandon Eisert allowed another three runs (two earned) on four hits with two walks and one strike out in two innings before Willy Gaston took over and allowed a run on five hits in 2 1/3 innings, allowing both inherited runners to score. Cobi Johnson allowed four runs on four hits with a walk and two strikeouts in two innings and Canadian Alex Nolan allowed two walks in the eighth but struck out one and got out of the inning without giving up a run.

Dunedin Blue Jays, Palm Beach Cardinals (STL)

Game postponed due to rain. To be made up on June 30

FCL Blue Jays 7, FCL Phillies 8

The Florida Complex League got underway on Monday with the FCL Blue Jays (0-1) falling to the FCL Phillies 8-7.

Gabriel Martinez had three hits for the Blue Jays, going 3/5 with a double and a run while J.J. D’Orazio previously known as Javier) was 2/3 with an RBI and a run. Estiven Machado was 1/1 before coming out of the game and Jose Rivas was 1/2 with a walk, two RBI and two runs. Top international signee Rikelvin De Castro was 1/5 with a double and a run at shortstop and Peniel Brito was 1/3 with a double and three RBI. Emmanuel Sanchez was 1/3 with a double, a walk and a run.

Newly signed to a minor league contract, John Axford started and gave up a hit and struck out one in his first pro game in close to two years. Yaifer Perdomo tossed four innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on four hits and striking out seven while Kelvin Perez allowed a run on a solo home run, walking two over one inning. Jiorgeny Casimiri allowed two runs on two hits (one HR) with two walks and two strikeouts in 2/3 of an inning and Soenni Martinez finished the game with 2 1/3 innings without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out three.

FCL Blue Jays 7, FCL Yankees 3

The FCL Blue Jays (1-1) didn’t take control of the game until the late innings, scoring five runs in the eighth and another two in the ninth to beat the FCL Yankees 7-3.

The club had just seven hits with two coming from third baseman Angel Del Rosario who was 2/3 with a double and a walk. Glenn Santiago was 1/4 with a home run and three RBI while Amell Brazoban was 1/3 with a walk, an RBI and a run. J.J. D’Orazio was 1/3 with a run and Gabriel Martinez was 1/4 with a walk and a run. Justin Ammons subbed in for Rikelvin De Castro, going 1/2 with a run and two stolen bases.

Tony Rosario was on the mound to start, going one inning, walking three and striking out two. Guillermo Villasmil allowed three runs in two innings, surrendering five hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Edgar Castro went two scoreless innings, allowing a hit and a walk with three strikeouts while Marc Civit got the win, walking two and striking out two in two innings. Jeury Hiciano finished, allowing two hits and striking out one in the eighth.
