June 20, 2021 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

The Toronto Blue Jays’ minor league affiliates picked up three wins in four games on Sunday, with only the Dunedin Blue Jays falling in their week-ending games.

Buffalo Bisons 7, Rochester Red Wings (WAS) 1

The Buffalo Bisons (22-18) jumped out to an early lead and thanks to some excellent pitching, this game was never in much doubt as they beat the Rochester Red Wings 7-1.

The big man, George Springer, again started in center field and was 1/3 with two runs before coming out of the game for Cullen Large who was 1/1. Christian Colon was 3/5 with an RBI and two runs while Richard Urena was 2/5 with two doubles. Logan Warmoth was 2/5 with a triple and a run and Kevin Smith was 1/4 with a home run, a walk, three RBI and a run. Rodrigo Vigil was 1/4 with an RBI and Tyler White was 1/5 with an RBI. Breyvic Valera was 1/3 with two walks and a run.

Jacob Waguespack was on the mound and he was excellent, giving up just four hits and a walk with six strikeouts in five scoreless innings. Jackson McClelland tossed 2/3 of an inning, allowing a run on a hit and two walks and Kirby Snead finished off the sixth. Curtis Taylor tossed a scoreless seventh, striking out two while Dany Jimenez kept Rochester off the board, giving up a hit in the eighth. Bryan Baker finished it off with a clean ninth.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 8, Hartford Yard Goats (COL) 5

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (17-24) picked up another win against the Hartford Yard Goats, beating them 8-5 in Sunday’s series finale.

Gabriel Moreno, playing third base, hit his eighth home run of the year and his second in two games, going 3/4 with a double, two RBI and two runs. Jordan Groshans was 3/4 with a home run, an RBI andtwo runs while Vinny Capra continues hit very well in his opportunities, going 2/3 with a home run, a walk, an RBI and a run. Otto Lopez also hit a home run, his first of the year, going 1/5 with the solo shot. Chavez Young was 2/2 with a walk and an RBI before coming out of the game for Reggie Pruitt. Chric Bec was 2/4 with a run and stolen base. Austin Martin was 1/4 with an RBI and a run and Samad Taylor was 1/4.

Righty Simeon Woods Richardson was on the mound and he had a bit of a mixed bag of a game. He did strike out nine with just one walk but also gave up three runs on four hits. Kyle Johnston tossed three innings, allowing a run on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts and Brody Rodning surrendered a solo home run in the ninth, striking out one.

Vancouver Canadians 7, Everett AquaSox (SEA) 1

The Vancouver Canadians (24-18) got a solid overall outing and beat the Everett AquaSox 7-1 to close out their week-long series on Sunday.

On the mound was Paxton Schultz and he lasted 3 1/3 innings, giving up a run on five hits (one HR) with three walks and three strikeouts. Brandon Eisert came in with two runners on and stranded both, tossing 3 2/3 innings of scoreless ball, allowing just one walk and striking out four. Parker Caracci also inherited two runners, pitching two innings and striking out three.

Rafael Lantigua had a big game for the Canadians, going 2/4 with home run, a triple, two RBI and a run. Sebastian Espino also had two hits, going 2/3 with a double, two RBI and a run. Spencer Horwitz was 2/4 with an RBI, a run and a stolen base while Philip Clarke was 2/4 with an RBI and a run. Tanner Kirwer was 1/4 with a walk and a run, Ryan Gold was 1/4 and D.J. Neal was 1/4 with a stolen base and a run.

Dunedin Blue Jays 3, Clearwater Threshers (PHI) 9

The Dunedin Blue Jays (17-24) finished off their week’s series with the Clearwater Threshers by falling 9-4 on Sunday.

Addison Barger was 2/4 with a home run, an RBI and a run but also made two errors in the field, playing third base while Orelvis Martinez was 1/3 with a solo blast of his own. Harrison Ray was 1/4 with an RBI while Leonardo Jimenez was 1/3 with a walk.

On the mound was Trent Palmer who is working on his command out there. Palmer threw two innings, allowing just a hit but he walked two and struck out five. Julian Valdez was the punching bag on this day, giving up six runs on eight hits (one HR) with a walk in 1 2/3 innings while Roither Hernandez came on with two runners on and struck out the only batter he faced. Jol Concepcion walked six in 3 1/3 innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on two hits with two strikeouts before Wilgenis Alvarado came on to finish the game, allowing two of his three inherited runners to score and giving up three hits with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings.
