June 2 Minor League Report

Tuesday didn’t finish well for the Blue Jays’ affiliates with the three senior teams in action losing in close, low-scoring matches. The DSL Blue Jays managed to win their first game, however.

Buffalo Bisons 1, Indianapolis Indians 3

 

While the Buffalo Bisons outhit the Indianapolis Indians, only Matt Hague’s home run counted for a run as the Bisons dropped to .500 on the season with the 3-1 loss. Andrew Albers made the start, allowing all three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks over six innings. Todd Redmond threw a scoreless inning and Phil Coke made his first Bisons appearnace with a scoreless frame of his own. Hague had two hits including the home run, pushing his batting average to .356 on the season. Adny Burn was on base twice, going 1/3 with a walk.

Roster Notes: Josh Thole was optioned back down to Buffalo, Scott Copeland was promoted (as the 26th man for yesterday’s double header), Phil Coke was assigned to Buffalo, Ryan Schimpf was sent down to New Hampshire.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 2, Bowie Baysox 3

In another close loss, the Fisher Cats couldn’t muster much offense behind John Anderson, losing 3-2 to the Bowie Baysox. Anderson was solid, allowing only two runs over six innings with four hits and one walk allowed but it was Cory Burns relieving him who allowed the winning run in the seventh inning. Danny Barnes and Wil Browning threw a scoreless inning each. On offense, the club only had eight hits with two each from Ryan Schimpf (2/4, RBI) and Jorge Flores (2/5, RBI).

Roster Notes: Ryan Schimpf was sent back to New Hampshire.

Dunedin Blue Jays 3, Clearwater Threshers 4

Coming up short in yet another one-run game, the Dunedin Blue Jays dropped their opener to neighbouring Clearwater 4-3. Jairo Labourt got the start, going six innings and allowing three runs on five hits and one walk with five strikeouts. Matt Dermody threw a scoreless inning but it was Carlos Ramirez who got into trouble with the walk, issuing four free passes without allowing a hit to take the loss in the tenth although it was Phil Kish who allowed the winning run to score in the bottom of the tenth. The Dunedin offense continues to sputter with Christian Lopes doing the most damage with the bat, going 1/4 with three RBI. Jason Leblebijian hit a double and Ian Parmley was 1/3 with a walk.

DSL Blue Jays 3, DSL White Sox 2

 

The DSL Blue Jays picked up their first win of the season beating the White Sox’ Dominican Leaguers by a run, scoring in the top of the ninth. The offense put together ten hits including three from Norberto Obeso, the left fielder who was 3/3 with two doubles and an RBI while Jesus Severino was 2/2 with a double, a walk and two runs.

On the mound, Wilfri Aleton got the start and went three innings, allowing a run on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Jose Dominguez went a scoreless inning but walked two while Joel Espinal allowed a run in another three innings. Jose Acosta earned the win with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless ball and Tommy  Henriquez earned the save by striking out the only batter he faced.
