June 1, 2021 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

With a full schedule in the minors on Tuesday, the Blue Jays’ affiliates went 1-3 with just the Buffalo Bisons coming away with a win.

Buffalo Bisons 3, Syracuse Mets (NYM) 2

The Buffalo Bisons (13-10) took the win to open the series against the Syracuse Mets with a walk-off walk in the bottom of the ninth to win 3-2.

Kevin Smith was the best player on the field, going 3/4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run while Logan Warmoth was 1/3 with a double, the game-winning walk and an RBI. Christian Colon was 0/2 but walked twice and scored twice while Tyler White was 0/3 but hit a sac fly to bring in Colon and tie the game.

T.J. Zeuch was on the mound to start and he was solid, allowing just two runs on seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts in five innings. Patrick Murphy, pitching his first rehab outing in Buffalo went two scoreless innings, walking one and allowing a hit, but striking out two and was never really in any trouble. Jackson McClelland allowed a hit and a walk in his inning of work and Jeremy Beasley got the win, going the ninth and striking out one.

Roster Notes: Patrick Murphy was moved to Buffalo to continue his rehab assignment. Jeremy Beasley was optioned to Buffalo from Toronto.



New Hampshire Fisher Cats 4, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (NYM) 6

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (9-15) scored one in the bottom of the ninth but still fell 6-4 to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

Austin Martin had a pair of hits for the ‘Cats, going 2/3 with a double and an RBI. Samad Taylor was 1/3 with a walk and a run and LJ Talley was 1/3 with a walk and a double, driving in a run and stealing a base. Kevin Vicuna also hit a double, going 1/3 with a run. Gabriel Moreno was on base twice, going 0/2 but walking once, getting hit by a pitch, stealing a base and scoring twice.

Kyle Johnston had a rough outing, allowing four runs on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts in just three innings. Graham Spraker gave up an unearned run on two hits with a walk and four strikeouts in two innings and Fitz Stadler allowed a run on a hit and three walks in 2/3 of an inning. Brody Rodning stranded the bases loaded and allowed only a hit in 2 1/3 innings with two strikeouts and Willy Gaston finished it with a clean ninth.

Roster Notes: James Dykstra was placed on the 7-day injured list on May 30.

Vancouver Canadians 1, Eugene Emeralds (SF) 7

The Vancouver Canadians’ (15-10) didn’t get much going, allowing seven runs and scoring just one in the loss to the Eugene Emeralds.

Tanner Morris (1/4, 2B) and Ronny Brito (1/3, 2B) had the club’s only extra-base hits while Cameron Eden was 1/4 with a stolen base (his 17th of the year) and a run. DJ Neal was 1/3 with a stolen base and Tanner Kirwer was 1/4.

Starter Sean Wymer took the damage on the mound, allowing seven runs on seven hits (one HR) with three walks and four strikeouts in four innings while Brandon Eisert (3 IP, 6 K) and Sam Ryan (2 IP, 2 H, 2 K) finished the job.

Roster Notes: Will McAffer was placed on the temporarily inactive list to play for team Canada in Olympic qualifying.

Dunedin Blue Jays 5, Bradenton Marauders (PIT) 7

The Dunedin Blue Jays (8-17) scored the most runs of any of the Blue Jays’ affiliates but that was a small consolation as they gave up four runs in the top of the ninth for their “home opener” to fall 7-5 to the Bradenton Marauders.

The club had just seven hits with Mack Mueller leading the way, going 2/3 with a walk and an RBI. Leonardo Jimenez is approaching the Mendoza line (.196) after a solid game in which he went 1/2 with two walks and a run. Steward Berroa was 1/4 with a double and an RBI while Miguel Hiraldo was on base twice, going 1/4 with a walk, two runs and a stolen base. Addison Barger was 1/5 with a double and two RBI but struck out three times and Jhon Solarte was 1/4 with three strikeouts. Orelvis Martinez was 0/4 with a walk and an RBI.

Starting was Naswell Paulino who struck out five in four innings but gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks. Elixon Caballero threw a scoreless fifth, striking out two while Adrian Hernandez was strong in three innings, giving up just a hit and a walk with seven strikeouts. Roither Hernandez took the loss, giving up four runs on two walks and two hits with two strikeouts in the ninth.

Roster Notes: Sean Mellen, who had signed with the Blue Jays at the end of May after being released by the Dodgers, was assigned to the Dunedin Blue Jays. Jefferson Herrera and Thomas Ruwe were assigned to the GCL Blue Jays from Dunedin and Elixon Caballero was promoted from the GCL to Dunedin.
