Buffalo Bisons 11, Pawtucket Red Sox 10

The Buffalo Bisons staged an epic comeback after trailing the Pawtucket Red Sox 10-4 after five innings. The Herd offense went to work, scoring seven times in the seventh and eighth inning to come up with an 11-10 victory. While starter Andrew Albers was hit hard in his first outing since returning from the Pan-Am Games, allowing seven runs on eight hits over two innings, Todd Redmond wasn’t much better, allowing three runs over three innings. The bullpen went to work, holding the Red Sox off the board, getting an inning each from Miguel Castro and Greg Burke while Greg Infante walked three (but didn’t allow any runs) over 1 1/3 innings before Chad Jenkins finished off the game for a save.

Matt Hague continues to put himself in the International League MVP conversation with games like yesterday’s. The Hague was 3/5 with a home run and five RBI and scored three times, also taking a walk. Alex Hassan (2/5, 2 R), Andy Burns (2/3, BB, 2B, 2 RBI, R) and Jonathan Diaz (2/4, R, BB, SB) all had two hits. Dalton Pompey was 1/4 with two walks and three runs scored.

Ryan Schimpf was the offensive player of the game for the Fisher Cats, going 3/4 with a home run while K.C. Hobson was 2/4, scoring a run.

Dunedin Blue Jays 1, Charlotte Stone Crabs 2

The Dunedin Blue Jays scored first, in the top of the first inning, but couldn’t follow it up with anything as the Charlotte Stone Crabs scored once in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game and again in the bottom of the tenth to win it. 20-year-old Conner Greene had an excellent start, going six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and no walks while striking out four. Brady Dragmire was also strong, giving up just one hit over two innings with three strikeouts. Wil Browning took the loss, giving up both runs over 1 1/3 innings.

Mitch Nay had two of the club’s seven hits while Anthony Alford was 1/4 with a walk and a stolen base.

Lansing Lugnuts 2, Dayton Dragons 1

Conor Fisk
Conor Fisk

Connor Fisk had a second strong start in a row, going 7 1/3 innings this time and holding the Dayton Dragons to just one run on three hits (including a solo home run) and one walk with four strikeouts. Colton Turner, Carlos Ramirez and Jose Fernandez (S, 9) combined to pitch the last 1 2/3 innings.

The offense got production from Chris Carlson (2/4, 2B, R) while David Harris (2/4, 2B) while Jason Leblebijian drove in a run. Ryan McBroom drove himself home for the other run, hitting his seventh home run of the season.

Player of the Game: Connor Fisk

Vancouver Canadians 6, Everett AquaSox 2

Despite allowing the Everett AquaSox to get 15 hits, the Vancouver Canadians’ pitching staff held them to just two runs, coming up with a 6-2 victory on Sunday. Francisco Rios allowed eight hits over five innings but just the two runs and didn’t walk anyone, striking out four. Michael Kraft gave up three hits in 1 1/3 scoreless innings while Bob Wheatley bailed him out, stranding the bases loaded despite giving up four hits over 2 2/3 innings with three strikeouts to earn his first save of the year.

Andrew Guillotte led the offense with two doubles, a run and an RBI while J.C. Cardenas was 2/4 with a double, an RBI and two runs, pushing his batting average to .167. Justin Atkinson was 1/4 with two RBI.

Player of the Game: Andrew Guillotte and J.C. Cardenas

Bluefield Blue Jays 6, Danville Braves 8

For many Blue Jays fans, the most important development in the Bluefield Blue Jays’ loss to the Danville Braves was the return to baseball for Jake Anderson, whose injury woes have kept him out of action for all but three games over the past three seasons. In his return, he went 1/4 with a double and two RBI. Rodrigo Orozco and Nick Sinay had two hits each with Orozco picking up a triple and two runs while Sinay scored once. Gabe Clark was 1/3 with a walk and a two-run home run and Juan Tejada was 1/3 with a walk, a double and a stolen base. Yeltsin Gudino had a rough game, going 0/4 with a run, an RBI but two throwing errors.

On the mound, Tayler Saucedo started, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits with one walk and five strikeouts over four innings. Miguel Burgos allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts over three innings. Tyler Burden pitched the last two innings, allowing an unearned run on a hit with two strikeouts.
