With only five games played on Sunday, the Blue Jays’ affiliates went 2-3 despite a much awaited offensive explosion from the Vancouver Canadians.

 

 

Buffalo Bisons 4, Columbus Clippers 3

 

The Bisons got the job done again against the Columbus Clippers, getting an RBI single from Dalton Pompey in the bottom of the 12th inning to walk off with the win. Pompey was on base three times, walking twice and getting a hit while also stealing a base. Matt Hague is certainly being talked about as an MVP candidate in the International League and he fueled that fire with a 2/6 game, launching his seventh home run of the year and driving in three. Caleb Gindl, Josh Thole, Alex Hassan and Munenori Kawasaki also had two hits each.

Matt Boyd had a strong start, going seven innings and allowing three runs in a no-decision. He gave up five hits and just one walk, striking out six. Todd Redmond, Bobby Korecky and Rob Rasmussen all threw one inning of scoreless relief with Rasmussen striking out the side and Chad Jenkins put two run-free frames together, earning his seventh win of the year.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 0, Portland Sea Dogs 2

 

Despite 6 1/3 solid innings from John Anderson, the Fisher Cats bats were stifled, falling to the Portland Sea dogs 2-0 on Sunday. Anderson went 6 1/3 and allowing only two runs (one earned) on nine hits and one walk with two strikeouts. Dustin Antolin (1 2/3 IP, 1 H, 1 K) and Chad Girodo (1 IP) finished the game. Jorge Flores had a single and a walk.

Dunedin Blue Jays 3, Daytona Tortugas 5

 

The Blue Jays couldn’t overcome an early lead by the Tortugas despite a ninth inning home run by Rowdy Tellez. The Blue Jays made three errors contributing to all by two of the runs against being unearned. Murphy Smith made the start, giving up four runs (one earned) on six hits and four walks in 4 2/3 innings. Luis Santos split the start, going another 4 1/3 innings and allowing a solo home run with five strikeouts. The offense only had six hits including two from Tellez including his home run.

Lansing Lugnuts 2, Great Lakes Loons 7

 

The Lansing Lugnuts dropped another game, seeing their offensive struggles continue in a 7-2 loss to the Great Lakes Loons. Justin Shafer allowed three runs on four hits in 2 1/3 innings and Dusty Isaacs allowed Shafer’s inherited runner plus three of his own to score over 3 2/3 innings of relief despite striking out six and walking just one. Carlos Ramirez allowed a run on two hits over two innings.

Infielder Christian Vazquez probably had his best day as a pro, going 2/2 with two walks, a double and his first professional home run.

Vancouver Canadians 16, Eugene Emeralds 5

 

A ten-run first inning gave the Vancouver Canadians all the cushion they needed as they slammed 20 hits and 16 runs against the Eugene Emeralds in a big win. Justin Atkinson had four hits, going 4/4 with two runs and an RBI while J.C. Cardenas contributed three singles and two RBI. Andrew Guillotte (3/6, 2B, RBI, 2 R) and Gunnar Heidt (3/5, 2 2B, 3 R, RBI) also had three hit games. Lane Thomas was 1/3 with a double but drove in four runs while Carl Wise also brought in four with a 2/5 game that including a triple. Ryan Hissey alos had a good game with two doubles and three runs.

Clinton Hollon made the start, going four innings and giving up two runs on five hits and two walks while Josh DeGraaf allowed two unearned runs on three hits with three strikeouts in three innings. Michael Kraft allowed the final run in two innings.
