It was a light day in the Blue Jays’ minor leagues with two games called due to rain and the Buffalo Bisons off for the All-Star break. Overall, it was a 2-3 day with a great pitching performance in Dunedin and some not so great ones in the lower minors.

Dunedin Blue Jays 3, Jupiter Hammerheads 0
Luis Santos returned from the DL with a strong start, going seven shutout innings and allowing just three hits and one walk with three strikeouts. Alonzo Gonzalez relieved him, giving up just one more hit and two walks, striking out four in two innings of work.
The offense didn’t provide much, but it was enough as they combined for seven hits. Anthony Alford led the way with a 2/4 game, driving in a run while Rowdy Tellez and Jorge Saez drove in the other runs. Saez was 1/2 with a walk and a run and Christian Lopes had the club’s only extra-base hit, a double.

Lansing Lugnuts 3, Dayton Dragons 4
The Lansing Lugnuts lost another game to the Dayton Dragons by one run, falling behind early and not being able to put enough runs on the board late. Ryan “McBoom” McBroom pushed his batting average to .351 (leading the Midwest League) with a 3/3 game, hitting a double and driving in his 59th run of the season with a sacrifice fly. The three hits came in his first three at bats, giving him a nine-at-bat hit streak before he hit a sacrifice fly to end the streak. Dawel Lugo and Boomer Collins each drove in a run and took a walk while getting a hit. The Dragons’ pitchers had D.J. Davis‘s number, striking him out four times.
Justin Shafer started on the mound and gave up four runs over the first two innings but settled in to continue to throw 6 2/3 innings with just one walk and seven strikeouts. Tim Mayza threw 1 1/3 innings of one-hit ball with two strikeouts to finish the game.

Vancouver Canadians 3, Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 7
The Vancouver Canadians can’t seem to beat the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, falling 7-3 on Monday. Clinton Hollon was on the mound and was hit for three runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings, walking one and striking out three. Michael Kraft was lit up for three runs (two earned) in two innings and Sean Ratcliffe only pitched 1/3 of an inning, allowing an inherited runner to score as well as an unearned run charged to him. Turner Lee threw two perfect innings to finish the game with two strikeouts.
Andrew Guillotte hit his first professional home run, going 3/5 while Carl Wise was 2/4 with a double. J.C. Cardenas also had a triple, going 1/4.
Roster Notes: Joey Aquino was released by the Blue Jays and Travis Bergen was placed on the DL.

Bluefield Blue Jays, Princeton Rays
Game Postponed due to rain
GCL Blue Jays 6, GCL Braves 12
Left fielder Cliff Brantley had himself a day, coming a double short of the cycle and going 4/5 with a triple a home run and two RBI but it wasn’t enough as the pitching staff was pummeled by the Braves. Reggie Pruitt continued to hit well as he was 2/5 with two RBI and two runs.
Hansel Rodriguez had an ERA demolishing outing, going 2 2/3 innings and giving up eight runs on nine hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Nate Abel relieved him and allowed another four runs on four hits (including two home runs) and one walk with three strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings. Justin Maese had a good outing, however, throwing three scoreless innings, giving up three hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
Player of the Game: Cliff Brantley
DSL Blue Jays 10, DSL Padres 2
The DSL Blue Jays rocked the Padres, scoring ten times thanks to 10 walks and seven hits (and six errors by the Padres). Antony Fuentes drove in three runs on two doubles while Sam Buelens was on base three times with a single and two walks, stealing four bases. Kevin Vicuna stole two bases despite not getting a hit or walk and Cristian Peguero was 2/2 with a walk and an RBI.
Despite five errors by the defense (including two by Sterling Guzman), the Blue Jays’ pitching staff only allowed two runs. Yennsy Diaz had a great start, allowing just one hit and two walks over five innings, striking out nine while Juan Nunez allowed teh two runs in his two innings of work. Jairo Rosario worked two perfect innings to finish the game, striking out four.
