And we’re back! After a few days without WiFi, we’re back online with some catching up to do. First, here’s our minor league report for Canada Day!

Buffalo Bisons 2, Gwinnett Braves 6

 

Daniel Norris made a start with Alex Anthopoulos in the crowd and didn’t impress, giving up all six runs (four earned), in seven innings, walking two and striking out one. Chad Jenkins completed the game with two scoreless innings, striking out a batter and giving up a hit and a walk.

The Bisons only had five hits with Jonathan Diaz getting two and Sean Ochinko going 1/3 with a two-run home run

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 2, Portland Sea Dogs 0

Lefty John Anderson led the way as three pitchers combined on a shutout as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats beat the Portland Sea Dogs. Anderson gave up seven hits over 6 2/3 innings, striking out four while Chad Girodo stranded a runner and struck out a batter over 1 1/3 inning and Wil Browning, newly promoted again from Dunedin picked up his first Double-A save with a scoreless ninth.

The Fisher Cats spread the offense, getting two hits each from three different players. Dalton Pompey was 2/4 with an RBI and a walk while newly named Eastern League All-Star Dwight Smith, Jr. was 2/5 with an RBI. Ian Parmley also had two hits, walked and scored twice.

Dunedin Blue Jays 3, Brevard County Manatees 12

 

Jairo Labourt, named to the MLB Futures Game this year, didn’t get off to a good start, taking the loss against the Brevard County Manatees after giving up six runs in five innings including three home runs. He struck out four but walked three. Alberto Tirado was much better, giving up three hits and one walk in three innings with one strikeout and Matt Dermody was tagged for six runs in one inning as he finished the game.

Jonathan Davis (J.D.) was the only one to get more than one hit as Mitch Nay hit a two-run double and L.B. Dantzler drove in another with a double. Davis scored once and was 3/4 with a double.

Lansing Lugnuts 3, South Bend Cubs 2

Starlyn Suriel got the start and lasted seven innings, giving up two runs on eight hits and two walks with four strikeouts but he couldn’t last long enough to earn the win as the Lugnuts won in ten innings. Carlos Ramirez picked up his second win, throwing three innings without allowing a run, giving up three htis and a walk with two strikeouts.

Chris Carlson was the hero, hitting a solo home run in the top of the 10th and Ramirez made it stand up but Michael De La Cruz led the club in hits, going 3/4 with an RBI while Ryan McBroom was 2/3 with a walk.

Vancouver Canadians 0, Spokane Indians 3

 

The Vancouver Canadians’ record dropped to 6-8 after a Canada Day home loss to the Spokane Indians. Jonathan Harris took the loss but only gave up one run in three innings while Jonathon Wandling allowed two runs on four hits in five innings. Brandon Hinkle pitched a scoreless ninth. The offense was quiet with only Gunnar Heidt and Kevin Garcia getting more than one hit. Heidt was 2/4 and Garcia was 2/3 with a double.

Bluefield Blue Jays 4, Burlington Royals 5

The Bluefield Blue Jays mounted an eighth-inning comeback but couldn’t overcome the Burlington Royals in a 5-4 loss. Four Blue Jays had multi-hit games in the 13-hit attack with Deiferson Barreto hitting his first home run of the year, going 2/5 and adding a triple. Rodrigo Orozco was 2/5 with a double, Christian Williams was 2/4 with a walk and Freddy Rodriguez was 2/4. Mattingly Romanin was 1/2 and walked twice.

Angel Perdomo gave up all five runs on five hits (including two home runs) and a walk with three strikeouts. Grayson Huffman threw two scoreless innings, walking two and giving up one hit with one strikeout.

GCL Blue Jays 4, GCL Yankees2 5

 

Hansel Rodriguez got the start for the GCL Blue Jays and gave up three runs in 4 2/3 innings, walking two and striking out five. Nate Abel allowed a run on three walks and two hits in 1 1/3 while John Kravetz took the loss, giving up an unearned run on three hits and three walks in 2 2/3 innings with five strikeouts.

Levi Scott was 2/3 with his first professional home run while Canadian Owen Spiwak was 2/3, catching most of the game. Bryan Lizardo was 1/3 with a triple while Kalik May hit another triple, going 1/5.

DSL Blue Jays 12, DSL Padres 1

 

Yennsy Diaz was the starter for the Blue Jays and allowed an unearned run over four innings but walked four along the way, striking out three. Wilmin Lara earned the win (3-0), throwing two innings of one-hit ball, also striking out three. Alvaro Galindo also struck out three while giving up one hit and one walk in two innings while Jose Agrinzones allowed two walks but no hits in an inning of work, striking out two batters.

The Blue Jays’ offense exploded for 12 runs and 14 hits, getting four each from two of the club’s best hitters. Sterling Guzman pushed his batting average to .368 with a 4/6 game that included a double, three runs and an RBI while Norberto Obeso was 4/6 with a double, two RBI and two runs.
