Blue Jays from Away: Offseason Edition

Astana, Kazakhstan
Astana, Kazakhstan

It’s been a very busy summer on the baseball and the personal front. I’ve traveled to six countries (if we count the USA) and performed and recorded in three countries in Europe and presented some of my academic research in Kazakhstan while also seeing baseball in Toronto, Buffalo, New Hampshire and Lansing (plus Dunedin for Spring Training). That means that there’s a lot to catch up on in October while watching the Blue Jays’ big leaguers head to the playoffs.

Here’s what’s coming to Blue Jays from Away in the fall.

  • Completing the reports for the 2015 Blue Jays minor league affiliates. We’ve just finished Bluefield, leaving us five teams (and 20 posts) to go before we’re done. There may be a delay as we head to mid-October as I head to Kingston for a couple of days to present at Queen’s University at perform a concert there. I try to do one of these per day so if you’re a Bisons fan, it’ll probably be coming towards late October. Happy Hallowe’en, Buffalonians!

  • Adding Player Profile pages in the Premium Content Section for all of the 2015 Blue Jays’ draftees and non-drafted free agents. I’ve been very slow in getting to this but it’s been unavoidable due to the travel and busyness!

  • In conjunction with adding the Player Profiles, I’ll be updating the team lists within the Premium Content section. This takes a while, unfortunately, but it’s definitely on the list.

  • Preparing for the 2016 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Handbook. This involves compiling “guest” materials (I’ve got an interesting feature planned for you), revising the player database to include all of the new players in the organization, writing up new profiles and incorporating my latest scouting reports into those revisions.

  • Keeping you up to date on the Blue Jays playing in fall and winter leagues, the Rule 5 draft and offseason acquisitions.

It’s going to be a busy offseason for us here. We’re looking for a staff writer to help out a couple of times a week so if you’re a writer who loves the Jays and their minor league system, send us an email (bluejaysfromaway@gmail.com).
