August 9, 2019 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

On a full day of action in the Toronto Blue Jays’ minor league season, the clubs were 3-5, getting wins from the GCL, Dunedin and Lansing.

 

 

Buffalo Bisons 3, Columbus Clippers (CLE) 4

 

The Buffalo Bisons were edged by the Columbus Clippers, losing 4-3.

Andrew Sopko took the loss, giving up four runs on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts over six innings. Neil Ramirez allowed just a hit while striking out two in the seventh and Danny Young gave up two hits with two strikeouts in the eighth.

Andy Burns hit a home run, going 1/4 with two RBI while Socrates Brito was 2/4 with a double and a run. Billy McKinney was 1/3 with a double and a walk while Richard Urena was 1/3 with a walk and a run. Santiago Espinal also hit a double, going 1/4 with an RBI while Rowdy Tellez was 1/3 with a walk.

Roster Notes: Dalton Pompey was placed on the 7-day IL while Neil Ramirez was promoted to Buffalo from Dunedin. Jordan Romano was sent to the GCL to begin a rehab assignment.

 



 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 2, Erie SeaWolves (DET) 4

 

Returning home, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats lost 4-2 to the Erie SeaWolves.

Chad Spanberger was 2/4 and Joshua Palacios was 1/4 with a solo home run. Forrest Wall was 1/4 with an RBI and Brock Lundquist and Alberto Mineo were each 1/4.

Yennsy Diaz returned from his major league debut to throw six innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits (including a home run) with just one walk and seven strikeouts, taking the loss. William Ouellette allowed a hit and two walks in two scoreless innings and Vinny Nittoli finished the game, striking out one in the ninth.

Dunedin Blue Jays 7, Bradenton Marauders (PIT) 5

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays beat the Bradenton Marauders 7-5 on Friday with a huge game from Alejandro Kirk.

Kirk hit two home runs, going 2/5 with three RBI while Samad Taylor also went deep, going 1/4 with the solo shot. Ryan Noda had two hits including a double, and a walk and scored a run, stealing two bases and Kacy Clemens was 1/2 with two walks, a double and a stolen base. Reggie Pruitt was 1/4 with two RBI and a run while Demi Orimoloye was 1/5 with a stolen base. Kevin Vicuna hit a double, going 1/5 with a run and Chavez Young was 1/5. Nick Podkul was 0/2 but walked and drove in a run with a sac fly.

Nick Allgeyer picked up his ninth win but allowed five runs on five hits (including three home runs) with three walks and six strikeouts. Emerson JImenez allowed only a hit and struck out one in two innings and Jackson Rees brought his Dunedin ERA below 1.00 with two scoreless innings, giving up a hit and striking out four.

Roster Notes: Neil Ramirez was promoted to the Buffalo Bisons.

 

Lansing Lugnuts 12, South Bend Cubs (CHC) 2

 

The Lansing Lugnuts got down by a run in the top of the third and from then on, took control of the game, finishing with a 12-2 win over the South Bend Cubs.

Yorman Rodriguez, recently promoted to Lansing, made a splash in his debut, going 4/5 with a double, a triple, three RBI, a stolen base and three runs while Griffin Conine was 2/4 with a walk, an RBI and a run, adding an outfield assist. Rafael Lantigua was 2/3 with a triple, a sac fly, two RBI, a hit by pitch, a stolen base and two runs while L.J. Talley was 2/5 with a home run (in his second consecutive game), three RBI and a run. Hunter Steinmetz was 2/4 with a walk and two runs, and Jake Brodt was 2/5 with two runs. Otto Lopez also had two hits, going 2/5 with a walk, an RBI and a run.

Fitz Stadler started, going six solid innings with two runs against on five hits and a walk, striking out four. Marcus Reyes threw another two scoreless innings, allowing a hit and striking out one while Juan Nunez struck out three in the ninth.

Player of the Game: Yorman Rodriguez

Roster Notes: Randy Pondler and Juan De Paula were placed on the 7-day IL while Yorman Rodriguez was promoted from Vancouver to Lansing. Hagen Danner was sent to Vancouver and Juan Nunez was brought back to Lansing from Vancouver.

 

Vancouver Canadians 2, Everett AquaSox (SEA) 8

 

All-Star Adam Kloffenstein struggled a bit in his five innings but it was the Vancouver Canadians’ offense that let the club down, scoring just two runs in an 8-2 loss to the Everett AquaSox.

Kloffenstein went five innings, allowing three runs on six hits with a walk and four strikeouts to take the loss before turning it over to Gage Burland who gave up two more runs on three hits with three strikeouts in two innings. Parker Caracci allowed three runs on three hits with a walk in two innings to finish the game.

Mc Gregory Contreras was 2/4 while Brett Wright was 1/2 with a walk, an RBI and a sac fly. Ronny Brito was 1/4 and Jesus Lopez was 1/3 with a double, a walk and a run. Trevor Schwecke, Tanner Morris and Will Robertson were all 1/4.

Roster Notes: Yorman Rodriguez and Juan Nunez were sent from Vancouver to Lansing and Hagen Danner was sent from Lansing to Vancouver.

 

Bluefield Blue Jays 5, Princeton Rays (TB) 12

 

The Princeton Rays defeated the Bluefield Blue Jays 12-5 on Friday.

Two Blue Jays had three hits each with Leonardo Jimenez going 3/4 with a walk and two runs while Justin Ammons was 3/4. Andres Guerra was 2/4 with a double and a run and Davis Schneider also hit a double, going 2/5 with an RBI. Eric Rivera was 1/4 with a double, a walk and two runs while Miguel Hiraldo was 1/5 with a double and an RBI. Steward Berroa was 1/3 with a walk and an RBI.

Sam Ryan allowed eight runs (six earned) on eight hits (including a home run) with four strikeouts over four innings. Julian Valdez allowed all three inherited runners to score but threw three scoreless innings of his own, giving up a hit and two walks with two strikeouts. Aldo Ovando gave up four runs on two hits and a walk with a hit batter and two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings and Yunior Hinojosa stranded his inherited runner, striking out one of the two batters he faced to finish the final 1/3 of an inning.

GCL Blue Jays 4, GCL Yankees East 3

 

The GCL Blue Jays scored in the bottom of the 10th to beat the GCL Yankees East 4-3.

Alberto Rodriguez had a pair of hits, going 2/5 with two RBI, a run and a stolen base while Javier D’Orazio was 2/4 with two RBI. Dasan Brown was 1/3 with a walk, two runs and two stolen bases and Jose Zepeda was 1/2 with a walk and a double. Hugo Cardona and Pedro Hurtado were both 1/4 and Jose Rivas was 1/5.

Clay Buchholz returned to action, tossing two innings and giving up a run on four hits before Jordan Romano also took the mound, retiring all three batters he faced, getting three ground ball outs. Brody Rodning also was on a rehab assignment, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits with a strikeout in 2/3 of an inning before Miguel Olivo finished the inning, allowing a hit and one of the two inherited runners to score. Kendall Williams gave up a hit and struck out three in three scoreless innings and Jose Espada walked one and struck out one in a scoreless eighth. Jackxarel Lebron allowed a hit and struck out two in the final two innings of the game.

Roster Notes: Clay Buchholz and Jordan Romano were sent to the GCL Blue Jays for rehab assignments.

 

DSL Blue Jays 7, DSL Reds 11

 

The DSL Blue Jays fell 11-7 to the DSL Reds.

Soenni Martinez was on the mound to start, allowing four runs on nine hits with a walk and five strikeouts in four innings before Gerardo Santana allowed another five runs (three earned) on two hits and four walks with one strikeout in one-plus innings. Andres Garcia allowed a run on three hits (including a home run) with a walk and two strikeouts in two innings and Raudy Sanchez allowed a run on a hit and two walks in the eighth, striking out one.

Amell Brazoban led the offense with three hits including a double and an RBI while Francisco Fajardo was 2/3 with a walk, two RBI, two runs and a stolen base. Glenn Santiago also had two hits, going 2/4 with a run and Emmanuel Sanchez was 1/4 with a triple, two RBI and a run. Junior Ramos was 1/3 with a walk and a run.
