The minor league report is a little late this morning as I’m getting back into the Toronto swing of things!

 

 

Buffalo Bisons 3, Charlotte Knights 8

 

Former Buffalo Bison Kyle Drabek picked up the win for the Charlotte Knights as the Bisons fell 8-3. The offense wasn’t at its best against the Knights but Dalton Pompey had a big game, going 2/3 with two walks and two stolen bases. Roemon Fields was 1/3 with a walk and an RBI while picking up his first stolen base in Triple-A. Luke Scott and Ty Kelly drove in runs while Sean Ochinko was 0/1 with three walks.

Todd Redmond was hit hard, getting shelled for five runs in just three innings, giving up seven hits and two walks but striking out five. Greg Burke went two innings with a run against while Ben Rowen threw two scoreless frames. Greg Infante gave up a two run home run in the ninth.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 2, Richmond Flying Squirrels 3

 

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats did a little bit better, scoring a couple of runs but still fell to the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Kevin Nolan was 2/4 with a double while Ryan Schimpf was on base three times, going 1/2 with a double and two walks, driving in a run and scoring a run. Derrick Chung, back with the Fisher Cats, was 1/4 with an RBI.

Austin Bibens-Dirkx went 5 2/3 innings, giving up two runs on four hits with a walk and five strikeouts. John Anderson was credited with a blown save, giving up a pair of hits over 1 2/3 innings while Blake McFarland took the loss, giving up the winning run over 1 1/3 innings on four hits.

Dunedin Blue Jays 1, Daytona Tortugas 3

 

The D-Jays’ offense failed to ignite in a 3-1 loss to Daytona. Matt Dean launched his 11th home run of the year, going 2/3 but the Blue Jays only had three other hits. Shane Dawson took the loss, making his Dunedin debut, allowing three runs (two earned) over 5 2/3 innings, giving up six hits (including a two-run homer) and three walks with six strikeouts. Chris Smith tossed 2 1/3 innings of no-hit ball, striking out four.

Lansing Lugnuts 2, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 1

 

A player who I thought would be in Lansing much earlier, Clinton Hollon, made his Lugnuts debut in style, retiring 19 in a row and giving up just one hit and two walks in the first inning and was perfect over the next six innings of work. Colton Turner allowed Wisconsin’s only run on three hits in 1 2/3 innings while Carlos Ramirez finished the game off.

The offense didn’t have to do much to support Hollon and Dawel Lugo hit a sac fly and was 1/1 with a triple and a walk. D.J. Davis was 2/3 with a triple and Chris Carlson drove in the other run with a sac fly, going 1/3.

Bluefield Blue Jays 1, Greeneville Astros 5

 

The Bluefield Blue Jays didn’t generate any offense to speak of in a five-inning, rain-shortened 5-1 loss to Greeneville. Gabe Clark had the club’s only hit (adding a walk) and D.J. McKnight drove him in.

Juliandry Higuera allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks over 2 1/3 innings while Miguel Burgos allowed a run on four hits in 1 1/3 innings. Zak Wasilewski gave up just one hit in 1 1/3 innings.

Player of the Game: None

 

GCL Blue Jays 3, GCL Astros 2

 

The Blue Jays beat the Astros, getting five outstanding innings from 2015 third rounder Justin Maese as he shut down the Astros completely for five innings, allowing only one walk and striking out four. He followed Hansel Rodriguez who allowed both runs on six hits and a walk in four innings.

Jake Thomas had a great day, going 3/3 with a walk and a run. Nash Knight hit his first professional home run, going 1/3 with the dinger and two RBI. Levi Scott was on base three times, hitting a double and walking twice and driving in a run.

Player of the Game: Justin Maese and Jake Thomas

 

DSL Blue Jays 10, DSL Padres 6

 

The DSL Blue Jays returned to their high-powered form, beating the Padres 10-6 on Wednesday. The Jays got three hits from Antony Fuentes (3/5, 2B, RBI, 4 R, SB) and Manuel Herazo (3/5, 2B, R, 2 RBI, 2 SB). Kevin Vicuna had two singles and two RBI, Cristian Peguero was 1/2 with two walks and a home run and Francisco Rodriguez walked four times.

Juan Meza allowed five runs (three earned) in 3 2/3 innings, giving up five hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Guillermo De La Cruz followed with 5 1/3 stellar frames to earn the win, giving up just one run (on a solo home run) with two hits and two walks, striking out three.
