August 5, 2021 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

The Toronto Blue Jays’ minor league affiliates were 4-1 on Thursday, with only the Vancouver Canadians losing although the FCL Blue Jays had their game suspended due to rain.

Buffalo Bisons , Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs (PHI) 7

While the Buffalo Bisons (47-31) couldn’t hold the Lehigh Valley IronPigs to fewer than seven runs, they managed to score nine, including four in the top of ninth, to beat the Phillies’ top farm club 9-7.

Canadian catcher Kellin Deglan went 2/3 with a home run, a walk, three RBI and a run in his Buffalo debut and Cullen Large also went deep, going 1/4 with a solo home run and a walk. Richard Urena was 2/5 with a double, two RBI and a run and Tyler White was 2/4 with wo doubles, a walk, an RBI and run. Otto Lopez took three walks and went 1/2 with three runs while Christian Colon drove in two runs, going 1/5. Juan Graterol was 1/3 with a walk and a run.

Nick Allgeyer started and surrendered three runs on five hits and three walks with two strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings and Jeremy Beasley allowed a run on two hits with three strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings. Tommy Milone allowed an unearned run on two hits and a walk with a strikeout in two innings and Hobie Harris got the win, allowing a hit and striking out two in the eighth. Travis Bergen pitched the ninth, allowing two runs on two hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

Roster Notes: Josh Palacios was sent to the FCL Blue Jays to begin a rehab assignemtn. Jon Harris was sent back to New Hampshire from Buffalo.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 6, Hartford Yard Goats (COL) 2

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (37-40) rebounded to beat the Hartford Yard Goats 6-2 after taking a beating the other day.

Playing third base was Vinny Capra who had another monster day, going 4/5 with three RBI and a run. Demi Orimoloye was 3/4 with a double and a run and Jordan Groshans was 2/4 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Nick Podkul was 1/4 with a run and Ryan Gold was 1/5. Chavez Young, coming in for Tanner Kirwer who was 0/2 but walked, stole a base and scored, was 1/2 with a run.

Casey Lawrence went six innings in the win, allowing just two runs on five hits with five strikeouts but it was Fitz Stadler picking up the win with two scoreless innings, giving up just a hit and striking out two. Kyle Johnston finished it, walking one in the ninth.

Roster Notes: Brody Rodning was placed on the Development List and Jon Harris was returned to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats from Buffalo.

Vancouver Canadians 1, Hillsboro Hops (ARI) 5

The Hillsboro Hops were more than a match for the Vancouver Canadians (37-44), beating them 5-1.

Orelvis Martinez had the biggest of the Canadians’ three hits, going 1/4 with a solo home run. Will Robertson was 1/4 and Phil Clarke was 1/3 for all of the C’s offense (other than walks from Tanner Morris and Andres Guerra.

Alex Nolan was the starter in this one and he pitched well, giving up just two runs on eight hits (one HR) with five strikeouts in five innings. Brian Rapp allowed two runs on three hits and a walk in the sixth and Hayden Juenger made his pro debut, striking out two in a clean seventh. Justin Maese allowed an unearned run on two hits but struck out five in the final two innings.

Dunedin Blue Jays 8, Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (MIN) 0

Dutch righty Sem Robberse continues to be in a groove as he led the Dunedin Blue Jays (36-44) in an 8-0 shutout of the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels.

Robberse was dominant in five innings, giving up just a hit and a walk with four strikeouts while Elixon Caballero pitched two clean innings before Rafael Monsion threw two scoreless innings, allowing a hit and a walk with one strikeout to finish it off.

Miguel Hiraldo had a pair of hits, going 2/4 with a walk and two RBI while Harrison Ray was 2/5 with a double and a run. Steward Berroa was 1/2 with a double and walked three times with a stolen base, two RBI and two runs and Dasan Brown also hit a double, going 1/5 with a run. PK Morris was 1/4 with a walk and a run while Riley Tirotta was 1/3 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Hugo Cardona was 1/3 with two runs and three stolen bases and JJ D’Orazio was 1/4 with an RBI coming from a sac fly. Addison Barger was 0/3 but hit a sac fly and scored a run.

FCL Blue Jays, FCL Tigers West

Game suspended in the bottom of the sixth in a 5-5 tie.

Roster Notes: Josh Palacios was sent to the FCL Blue Jays to begin a rehab assignment. C Juan Gonzalez, OFs Garrett Spain and Jaden Rudd and LHP Jimmy Burnett were assigned to the FCL Blue Jays following their signing after the draft. On August 4, catcher Gary David was assigned to the FCL from the DSL.

DSL Blue Jays 6, DSL Orioles1 2

The DSL Blue Jays (8-7) picked up a win coming out of their off day, beating the DSL Orioles1 6-2.

Francisco Fajardo led the offense going 2/4 but was also caught stealing while Jonathan Peguero was 1/3 with a walk, an RBI and two runs. Robert Robertis was 1/4 with a run and Cristian Feliz was 1/3 with a run. Manuel Beltre was 1/4 with a walk and two RBI and was caught stealing.

Eliander Alcalde had a strong start on the mound, going five innings and allowing just a run on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts for the win. Jean Lopez allowed a run on two hits and a walk in the sixth and Gabriel Ochoa allowed two hits and two walks but didn’t give up any runs, striking out two in one inning. Pedro Acosta finished it with a two-inning save, giving up two hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
