August 3, 2021 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

The Florida teams were rained out and the Blue Jays had three wins in four games in their minor league system.

Buffalo Bisons 1, Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs (PHI) 6

The Buffalo Bisons (46-30) dropped the opening game of their series with the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs, falling 6-1.

The Bisons had just five hits with doubles from Juan Graterol (1/3) and Tyler White (1/3, BB) and singles from Christian Colon (1/4, RBI, Cullen Large (1/4) and Richard Urena (1/3).

Thomas Hatch was on the mound to start, allowing five runs on nine hits and a walk with three strikeouts in five innings. Dany Jimenez threw a scoreless sixth, striking out the side while Jacob Waguespack allowed a hit and a walk with two strikeouts in the seventh. Jon Harris finished it, allowing a run on three hits in the eight.

Roster Notes: Otto Lopez was promoted from New Hampshire to Buffalo and Vinny Capra was sent back to NH from Buffalo. Jacob Barnes was sent outright to Buffalo.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 8, Hartford Yard Goats (COL) 2

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (36-39) opened their series with the terrible Hartford Yard Goats, beating them 8-2.

Nick Podkul went deep for the Fisher Cats, going 2/4 with his sixth home run, drivin gin two while Samad Taylor was 3/3 with a walk and two runs. LJ Talley went 2/5 with an RBI and a run and Kevin Vicuna was 2/3 with three RBI and a run. Tanner Kirwer was 2/2 with a run while Chavez Young was 0/3 with a walk, a sac fly, an RBI and a run.

Reilly Hovis went five innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts to earn the win. Connor Law threw the sixth, allowing a hit and striking out one. Sean Rackoski allowed a hit and struck out two in the seventh. Marcus Reyes struck out one in the eighth and Kyle Johnston finished it out, allowing a hit and striking out one.

Vancouver Canadians 5, Hillsboro Hops (ARI) 2

The Vancouver Canadians (36-43) opened their week with a bunch of new players and beat the Hillsboro Hopes 5-2.

Shortstop Orelvis Martinez opened his time with Vancouver with a home run, going 1/4 with a two-run blast. Rafael Lantigua was 2/3 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run. Tanner Morris was 1/3 with a double and an RBI while Luis De Los Santos, shifting over to second base after the arrival of Martinez, was 1/2 with a walk and a run. Eric Rivera was 1/2 with a walk and a run and Zac Cook was 1/3 with an RBI and a run.

C.J. Van Eyk had a great outing, allowing just two hits and two walks with three strikeouts in five scoreless innings. Gabriel Ponce struck out two in the sixth and Andrew Bach, making his Vancouver deubt pitched a scoreless seventh, striking out one. Roither Hernandez was tagged for two unearned runs on three hits with a strikeout in the eighth. Parker Caracci pitched the ninth, picking up his eighth save, striking out one in the ninth.

Roster Notes: Gabriel Ponce, Andrew Bash and Orelvis Martinez were promoted from Dunedin to Vancouver. Sebastian Espino was placed on the 7-day injured list, 2021 sixth-round pick Hayden Juenger was assigned to the Vancouver Canadians and Adrian Hernandez and Brandon Eisert were promoted to New Hampshire.

Dunedin Blue Jays, Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (MIN)

Game postponed due to rain. To be made up August 4.

Roster Notes: The Dunedin Blue Jays added newly drafted players Justin Kelly, Matt Svanson, Riley Tirotta and Harry Rutkowski to the roster while Jiorgeny Casimiri and Geison Urbaez were moved from Dunedin to the FCL. FCL Blue Jays Michael Dominguez and Justin Ammons were both moved up to the Dunedin Blue Jays.

FCL Blue Jays, FCL Yankees

Game postponed due to rain. To be made up on August 14.

Roster Notes: Coming back to the FCL Blue Jays from Dunedin were Geison Urbaez and Jiorgeny Casimiri while Justin Ammons and Michael Dominguez moved up to Dunedin from the FCL.

DSL Blue Jays 8, DSL Reds 4

The DSL Blue Jays (7-7) had a strong game in the later innings, scoring five runs over the sixth and seventh to come away with an 8-4 win over the DSL Reds.

Manuel Beltre looks like he’s heating up, going 2/3 with a double, a home run, two walks, three RBI and two runs, adding a stolen base to lead the way. Cristian Feliz added two hits, going 2/5 with a home run, two RBI and two runs while Francisco Fajardo was 2/2 with two walks and three runs. Yhoangel Aponte was 1/5 with a double and an RBI while Robert Robertis was 1/4. Martin Gimenez was 1/4 with a double and an RBI and Jean Arnaez was 1/3 with a walk.

On the mound, Johan Simon threw five innings, giving up just two unearned runs on four hits with three strikeouts while Yondrei Rojas allowed a run on three hits with two strikeouts in two innings. Frank Medina allowed a run on a hit and a walk with two strikeouts in the eighth and Francis Mercedes finished it, giving up two hits but no runs with a strikeout in the ninth.
