The Dunedin Blue Jays were the sole winners in the Blue Jays’ minor league organization on Thursday as the clubs worked their way to a 1-7 record.

 

Buffalo Bisons 3, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 7

 

After completing two wins on Wednesday, the Buffalo Bisons couldn’t keep the magic going, losing 7-3 to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Thursday. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was 2/4 with a walk and two RBI while Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 2/5. Dwight Smith Jr. (completing the Junior Brigade) was 1/4 with a double, a walk and two runs but he made two errors (one on a throw and one fielding). Alberto Mineo got his first Triple-A hit, going 1/3 with an RBI.

Jacob Waguespack started, tossing five innings and giving up four runs on seven hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Luis Santos (1 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 3 K) followed and Murphy Smith (1 IP, 1 K), Danny Barnes (1 IP) and Preston Guilmet (1 IP, 1 H) each tossed a scoreless inning.

Roster Notes: Alberto Mineo was promoted to Buffalo and Matt Tracy went on the DL.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 0, Portland Sea Dogs 6

 

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats were shut out by the Portland Sea Dogs 6-0 on Thursday. Jon Harris took the loss, giving up four runs on eight hits (including a home run) with six strikeouts through five innings. Justin Dillon tossed two innings, giving up two runs on three hits and a walk with a strikeout and Zach Jackson allowed a hit and struck out two in two innings.

Bo Bichette had a pair of hits while Forrest Wall was 1/2 with a double and a walk.

Roster Notes: Josh DeGraaf was placed on the DL and Justin Dillon was activated.

Dunedin Blue Jays 4, Clearwater Threshers 1

 

Rodrigo Orozco hit his first home run of the season, leading the Dunedin Blue Jays to a 4-1 win over the Clearwater Threshers and getting Patrick Murphy his 10th win of the year. Orozco was 2/5 with the home run and three RBI while Kacy Clemens was 1/2 with two walks and two runs. Kevin Smith was 1/5 with a stolen base and a run and Riley Adams was 1/3 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base.

Patrick Murphy tossed five scoreless innings, needing just 73 pitches, giving up three hits and two walks with five strikeouts. William Ouellette threw two scoreless frames, striking out one and Claudio Custodio allowed the Threshers’ only run on two hits with a strikeout over the final two innings.

Lansing Lugnuts 3, Bowling Green Hot Rods 7

 

Ryan Gold

The Lansing Lugnuts don’t seem to be able to beat the Bowling Green Hot Rods, losing 7-3 on Thursday. The Lugnuts had seven hits with Ryan Noda going 2/4 with a double, a home run and two runs and Ryan Gold was 2/4 with a solo home run. Andres Sotillo also had two singles.

Donnie Sellers allowed only two runs (one earned) on five hits (including a home run) with four strikeouts in four innings. Matt Gunter gave up five runs on seven hits and four walks with six strikeouts in the remaining four innings.

Vancouver Canadian 2, Boise Hawks 3

 

Hosting the Boise Hawks, the Vancouver Canadians were gracious enough to lose 3-2. Jose Espada took the loss, despite striking out seven and giving up only one hit in five innings, he walked five and the one hit was a home run accounting for all three of Boise’s runs. Fitz Stadler went three innings, giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts and Marcus Reyes struck out three in the ninth, allowing two hits.

The Canadians had just three hits including a double from Jesus Severino (who also walked) and a double from Nick Podkul who scored a run. Christopher Bec walked three times, scoring once and Mc Gregory Contreras walked twice. Tanner Kirwer had the team’s only RBI, going 1/4.

Bluefield Blue Jays 3, Danville Braves 8

 

Alejandro Kirk

The Danville Braves got to both Adams Cuevas and Josh Almonte as they defeated the Bluefield Blue Jays 8-3. Cuevas started and went 5 1/3 innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on 10 hits with four strikeouts. Andy McGuire allowed his inherited runner to score but didn’t allow a hit or a walk while striking out one in 1 2/3 innings. In one inning, Josh Almonte gave up four runs (three earned) on five hits with one strikeout.

Alejandro Kirk was 2/4 with a home run and two RBI while D.J. Daniels was 2/4 with a double and a stolen base. D.J. Neal had a single and a walk, scoring a run.

GCL Blue Jays 1, GCL Pirates 4

 

The GCL Blue Jays couldn’t muster much offense, scoring once and losing 4-1 to the GCL Pirates. Miguel Hiraldo (1/4, 2B, R) and Jose Abel Hernandez (1/3, 2B, RBI) each hit a double while Jose Ferrer was 1/2 with a walk.

Rafael Monsion allowed all four Pirates’ runs but only three were earned as he gave up four hits and two walks with one strikeout over six innings to take the loss. Eliezer Bello allowed just a hit and a walk over three innings, striking out one.

Roster Notes: Juan Acosta was promoted to the GCL Blue Jays and Ronald Magdaniel was placed on the 60-day DL.

DSL Blue Jays 6, DSL Orioles 7

 

The DSL Blue Jays and DSL Orioles played 11 innings but the Orioles were able to eke out a run in the top half to notch a 7-6 victory over the Jays. Alexis Carmona struck out seven in 5 2/3 innings, giving up two runs on seven hits while Junior Guzman allowed two more runs in 3 1/3 innings, giving up four hits with three strikeouts. Jeison Contreras allowed a home run as his only hit, giving up three runs (one earned) with a walk and two strikeouts in two innings.

Pedro Hurtado certainly didn’t “Hurt-ado” the team at all, going 4/6 with a triple and an RBI, scoring a run and stealing a base. Jhon Solarte was 2/6 with two RBI, a run and two stolen bases. Erickvi Celedonio was 2/6 with an RBI and Alberto Rodriguez was 2/4 with a double and two walks.
