Five games were completed in the Blue Jays’ minor league system on Monday and the club’s affiliates lost four of them despite seeing one of their top 2018 draft picks finally see some action and one of their major league starters get into a game on a rehab assignment.

 

Buffalo Bisons

 

Scheduled off day.

Roster Notes: David Paulino was sent to the GCL for a rehab assignment and Sean Reid-Foley was optioned back to Buffalo from Toronto.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3, Portland Sea Dogs 4

 

Aaron Sanchez continued his climb back up the ladder as he rehabs, taking the loss as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats fell 4-3 to the Portland Sea Dogs. Sanchez allowed all four Sea Dogs’ runs (three earned) on six hits and four walks with four strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings, throwing 86 pitches and just 42 for strikes. Dusty Isaacs finished the fifth, striking out one and stranding two runners in 2/3 of an inning and Hector Perez tossed three frames, allowing a hit and a walk with three strikeouts.

Bo Bichette continued his hitting ways, going 3/5 with two RBI while Jon Berti was 2/4 with a double and a run. Santiago Espinal and Juan Kelly were each 1/4 with a double with Espinal driving in a run and Kelly scoring one.

Dunedin Blue Jays

Roster notes: Kelyn Jose was sent to the GCL for a rehab assignment.

 

Lansing Lugnuts 5, Fort Wayne TinCaps 4

 

Back-to-back home runs in the third inning helped the Lansing Lugnuts beat the Fort Wayne TinCaps 5-4. Samad Taylor and Chavez Young went yard in the third inning with Taylor going 1/4 with his solo shot and Taylor going 2/3 with a double, a walk, a solo home run and two runs, adding two stolen bases. Bryan Lizardo was 2/3 with a double and a walk and Andres Sotillo hit a double, and scored, going 1/3. Reggie Pruitt was 0/2 with a run and a walk, stealing two bases.

Maximo Castillo went five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits (including a home run) with seven strikeouts and he didn’t walk anyone. Matt Shannon tossed three innings, allowing two hits and striking out one and Dany Jimenez picked up his 12th save, striking out two and allowing a hit in the ninth.

Vancouver Canadians 2, Tri-City Dust Devils 10

 

The Vancouver Canadians were manhandled by the Tri-City Dust Devils, losing 10-2. Starter Elio Silva kept things under control, giving up three runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts in five innings before Troy Miller was tagged for two unearned run on two hits with a strikeout in the sixth. Dennis Diaz opened the seventh inning, allowing three hits, two walks, a hit batter and a fielder’s choice in which no one appears to have gotten out. All told, Diaz allowed five runs without getting an out and left two runners on for Will McAffer who stranded them and tossed the remaining two innings, walking one and striking out two.

Brandon Polizzi was 2/5 with a run while Sterling Guzman was 2/4. Nick Podkul was 1/3 with a double, a walk and an RBI.

Bluefield Blue Jays 7, Princeton Rays 8

 

The Bluefield Blue Jays couldn’t rally for one more run, losing 8-7 to the Princeton Rays. D.J. Daniels was on base three times, walking and scoring thrice, and stealing two bases. Luis De Los Santos was 1/4 with three RBI, hitting a home run and Dominic Abbadessa drove in two runs, going 1/5. Cal Stevenson was 1/4 with a walk, an RBI and a run while Alejandro Kirk and Gabriel Moreno were each 1/3 with a walk and Moreno scored once.

Claudio Galva allowed two runs through five innings, giving up eight hits and striking out two. Andy McGuire took it on the chin, going 2/3 of an inning and giving up five runs on six hits and a walk with a home run among the hits. Josh Almonte stranded two runners but walked three in 1 1/3 innings, striking out one. Sean Rackoski gave up a solo home run in the eighth, taking the loss and striking out one.

GCL Blue Jays 4, GCL Phillies East 9

 

Joseph Reyes had a big game for the GCL Blue Jays but they lost to the GCL Phillies East 9-4. Reyes was 3/4 with a home run and three RBI, scoring twice and Steward Berroa was 2/5 with a run and a stolen base. Miguel Hiraldo was 2/4 with a double and an RBI.

Adam Kloffenstein made his debut in the GCL, tossing a scoreless innings, walking one and striking out two. Emanuel Vizcaino allowed seven runs (three earned) thanks to some of the five errors the Blue Jays made (including two from Miguel Hiraldo), sticking around for 3 1/3 innings and giving up seven hits and one walk with one strikeout. Meliton Reyes allowed two runs on two hits (including a home run) with a walk and three strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings and Gage Burland surrendered two hits and two walks with two strikeouts in two innings.
