The Blue Jays’ affiliates won two of their three games with some late-inning heroics in both Lansing and Hartford (the Fisher Cats were on the road).
Buffalo Bisons 5, Pawtucket Red Sox 4
The Buffalo Bisons beat the Pawtucket Red Sox in afternoon action on getaway day, coming from behind to tie in the fourth inning and then they would score the game-winning run in the top of the ninth. Rowdy Tellez was 2/5 with a double and a run while Roemon Fields was 1/3 with a double, a walk, an RBI, a run and two stolen bases. Dalton Pompey was also 1/3 with a walk, an RBI and a run and Devon Travis hit his first home run of the year, going 1/4 with two RBI and a walk.
Chris Rowley started, giving up all four of the Red Sox’ runs, allowing two home runs among five hits and two walks with five strikeouts over four innings. Taylor Guerrieri pitched three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit with four strikeouts before Tim Mayza allowed two hits and a walk with three strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings for the win. Al Alburquerque got the save, pitching the final out.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 7, Hartford Yard Goats 1
The New Hampshire Fisher Cats swept away the Hartford Yard Goats, smothering the league’s second-best offense in a game where baseball’s top prospect out-hit the Yard Goats in a 7-1 win. While Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was certainly the story, going 4/4 with two doubles, a home run, three runs and a stolen base, Markham-raised Jordan Romano had a no-hitter going through six innings in what was his best start of the year. While Romano has had issues in the past with escalating pitch counts and walks, on Wednesday, Romano was dominant, allowing no hits and just two walks with five strikeouts before leaving the game during the first batter of the seventh inning (getting him to a 2-2 count). Romano took some warm up pitches before leaving the game and it looks like the issue is minor and he’ll make his next start without missing any time. Danny Young took over, retiring the side in the seventh but he gave up a solo home run to former Blue Jays’ minor leaguer Ryan Metzler in the eighth as Young completed two innings of work, striking out four and allowing just that one blemish. Dusty Isaacs finished things off, giving up a hit in the ninth.
Aside from Guerrero’s stellar day, Cavan Biggio showed some thump again, hitting his 12th home run of the year, going 2/4 with a walk and two RBI. Andrew Guillotte was 2/4 with a double and Jonathan Davis was 2/5 with a double and triple, scoring once and driving in a run. Harold Ramirez was 1/4 iwth a walk and Connor Panas was 0/3 with a walk and a sacrifice fly. Catcher Ryan Hissey was 1/3 with a walk, a run and an RBI single.

Dunedin Blue Jays 0, Tampa Tarpons 4
The Dunedin Blue Jays were held to just four hits in a 4-0 loss to the Tampa Tarpons, the Yankees’ Advanced-A club. Joshua Palacios had two of those hits while Logan Warmoth was 1/4 but struck out three times and Rodrigo Orozco was 1/3 with an outfield assist.
Starter Angel Perdomo went four innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts. Connor Eller went three innings, giving up two more runs on three hits with three strikeouts and Travis Bergen tossed a perfect eighth to finish the game.

Lansing Lugnuts 12, Dayton Dragons 2
The Lansing Lugnuts offense struck again, demolishing the Dayton Dragons 12-2, moving their record to 26-13, by far the best in the Midwest League and they have a 2.5-game lead over Bowling Green who are second in their division. Yennsy Diaz was on the mound, moving his record to 4-1 with six innings of five-hit ball, giving up two runs on two walks with one home run allowed, striking out three. Dany Jimenez continues to show some improvements, walking one and giving up a hit over two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Andy Ravel finished it off, striking out one and giving up a hit in the ninth.
The reigning Midwest League Player of the Week, Kevin Smith, had another two hits including his 20th double of the season and his sixth home run, driving in five runs, giving him 38 on the season. Smith, hitting .379, is currently in third place in the league in batting average, first in OPS (1.101), first (by a wide margin) in doubles and first in RBI. Norberto Obeso had two RBI, going 2/4 with two runs while Brock Lundquist hit his eighth home run of the year, going 2/4 with three RBI. Yeltsin Gudino was 2/4 with a double and an RBI, scoring twice and Christian Williams was on base twice, going 1/3 with two walks and a run. Matt Morgan was also on base twice, going 0/1 with two walks and two runs.
