Over five games, the Toronto Blue Jays’ minor league affiliates were 2-3 on Sunday with the Buffalo Bisons rained out and the GCL and DSL Blue Jays were off.

Roster Notes: Jake Fishman was promoted to Buffalo from Dunedin and Ian Parmley was sent down to New Hampshire.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 1, Reading Fightin Phils 8

The Reading Fightin Phils took the wind out of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats’ sails by beating them 8-1 on Sunday. Jordan Romano went 5 2/3 innings but allowed three home runs among seven hits, leading to seven runs despite not walking anyone and striking out eight. Nick Hartman finished the sixth, striking out the only batter he faced and Craig Breslow pitched a scoreless seventh, giving up a hit and a walk. Zach Jackson struck out one, facing the minimum in the eighth and Danny Young allowing a home run among two hits for one run in the ninth.

Jonathan Davis had a pair of hits, stealing his 18th base of the year and Gunnar Heidt was 2/4 with a double. Juan Kelly, Andrew Guillotte and Ryan Hissey each had a hit with Hissey scoring the only run on a fielder’s choice attempt hit into by Bo Bichette (that resulted in an error) who was 0/4 on the day.

Dunedin Blue Jays 5, Clearwater Threshers 6

 

It was deja vu all over again as the Dunedin Blue Jays fell to the Clearwater Threshers with David Jacob hitting a home run in the losing cause. The Threshers were held at bay by Patrick Murphy who went seven strong innings, giving up just five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in a shutout bid. Connor Eller provided a scoreless eighth, walking one and striking out one but the cruise to a win fell off the rails in the ninth when Andy Ravel allowed four consecutive hits (including a home run) to start the ninth, leaving two on for Jonathan Cheshire who gave up two more hits (including another home run) as the Threshers walked it off with six runs in the ninth for the win.

David Jacob was 2/5 with the home run and a double, making it his second consecutive game with a round-tripper. Eduard Pinto was 2/4 with two RBI and Nash Knight was 2/4 with a triple, an RBI and a run. Rodrigo Orozco was on base twice, going 1/3 with a walk and two stolen bases and Jonelvy Molina, DHing, was 1/2 with a double and two walks.

Lansing Lugnuts 4, Great Lakes Loons 3

 

Maverik Buffo

The Lansing Lugnuts got three runs in the first inning and needed just one more in the seventh to secure a 4-3 victory over the Great Lakes Loons to keep their roll going with four straight wins following the All-Star Break (and seventh win in a row going back before the break). Maverik Buffo picked up his eighth win, going six innings and allowing just a solo home run among six hits without walking anyone and striking out three. Kyle Weatherly had another strong outing, allowing just three hits and striking out two over two innings and Matt Shannon picked up the save, giving up two runs on three hits in the ninth.

The Lugnuts translated just five hits into their four runs getting a double and a walk from Ryan Noda who drove in a run and scored once while Brock Lundquist was 1/3 with two RBI. Ryan Gold, Kevin Vicuna and Yeltsin Gudino had the other three hits.

Vancouver Canadians 3, Spokane Indians 4

 

The Vancouver Canadians couldn’t overcome the four runs that the Spokane Indians scored in a 4-3 loss on Sunday. Griffin Conine had his first two hits in the Northwest League, going 2/4 with a double while Vinny Capra hit his first professional home run, going 2/4 with the solo shot. Freddy Rodriguez was also 2/4 and Bryan Lizardo was 1/2 with a double, two walks and two runs.

Josh Winckowski struck out seven over five innings but he also allowed four runs on five hits and two walks. Dalton Rodriguez threw a scoreless sixth, giving up a hit and striking out one while Nick Allgeyer struck out three in two innings, allowing two hits.

Bluefield Blue Jays 5, Burlington Royals 1

 

Dom Abbadessa

The Bluefield Blue Jays soundly defeated the Burlington Royals, chasing a no-hitter that was denied by a solo home run in the ninth inning, ending the game at 5-1 for Bluefield. Troy Watson started, facing the minimum in three innings and striking out five. Cre Finfrock got hte win, pitching 2 2/3 innings of hitless ball, hitting two batters and striking out three before Matt Harris tossed 3 1/3 innings, allowing the one run on the home run with three strikeouts.

Dominic Abbadessa is currently hitting .500 after going 3/4 with an RBI and a run, adding his first stolen base of the year. Davis Schneider pushed his batting average to .533 with two doubles and two walks, driving in a run and scoring one. Jose Theran and Hagen Danner each had a hit and a walk, driving in a run and scoring once with Danner hitting a double.
