Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Named Eastern League Player of the Week

Vladimir Guerrero

We all knew he was playing well and that was confirmed as Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week of April 5-15, it was announced on Monday, adding to his growing hardware collection.

Guerrero hit .361 with two home runs, four doubles and 12 RBI to lead the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to the best start in team history at 7-2 through nine games. While the rest of the club is filled with some of the Blue Jays’ top young prospects, including Bo Bichette, Cavan Biggio, Jordan Romano and Sean Reid-Foley, Guerrero has stood out not only as the offensive leader but also as the youngest member of the club at just 19 years of age.

Guerrero, who was signed to a $3.9 million signing bonus in 2015, is considered to be one of the top prospects in baseball, behind only Shohei Ohtani of the Angels and Ronald Acuna of the Braves. Vlad his hitting .361/.419/.639 in nine games with five walks and four strikeouts, mimicking his career-long tendencies to walk as much or more than he strikes out. Guerrero earned the Player of the Week for the Dunedin Blue Jays the week of August 20, 2017 and he was the Florida State League Player of the Month for August of 2017.
