Despite falling behind to the Spokane Indians 1-0 through the first four innings, the Canadians rallied in the fifth and again in the seventh and held off the Indians to sweep their series and advance to the Northwest League Championship series.

Starting pitcher Jairo Labourt, who has completed a true turnaround since his rough start to the season in Lansing, earned the victory, throwing six innings of one-run ball, allowing six hits and walking two batters while striking out three. Two of the three remaining runs were unearned as the Indians tallied the rest of the runs off of the relief corps. Andrew Case didn’t allow a hit through 1 1/3 innings but Michael Kraft allowed Case’s inherited runner to score. Phil Kish also allowed an inherited runner of Kraft’s to score as well as one of his own, allowing a run on three hits and two walks but still earned the save.

Jonathan Davis was the offensive star, going 3/4 with a triple, two runs and an RBI, picking up his first hits since breaking his hand in July. Another big contributor was catcher Michael De La Cruz who was 2/2 with two doubles and three RBI. Franklin Barreto was 1/4, Richard Urena was 1/3 with a triple and an RBI while the big bats of Ryan McBroom and Rowdy Tellez were held silent.

The Canadians have now advanced to the NWL finals for the fourth consecutive year and are shooting for their fourth consecutive league championship, beginning on Saturday in Vancouver. The Canadians will play the Hillsboro Hops, the Northwest League affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, who the Canadians played to an even 5-5 in the season series.
