September 5, 2021 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

With just three games on Sunday in the Toronto Blue Jays’ minor league system, the clubs went 2-1.

Buffalo Bisons 9, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (NYY) 6

The Buffalo Bisosn (64-41) went to extra innings but beat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 9-6 in 11 innings on Sunday.

Shortstop Otto Lopez had a big day, going 4/6 with an RBI and two runs, adding two stolen bases. Richard Urena had three hits, going 3/5 with three RBI and two runs while Cullen Large was 3/5 with an RBI. Forrest Wall was 2/6 with an RBI, two runs and a stolen base and Gregory Polanco was 1/6 with a solo home run.

Lefty Nick Allgeyer went five innings and allowed three runs on four hits and four walks with six strikeouts in five innings. Julian Merryweather only got through 1/3 of an inning, allowing two runs on a hit and a hit batter (old friend Jonathan Davis) with one strikeout. Dany Jimenez allowed a hit, letting the inherited runner score, and struck out two in 2/3 of an inning. Travis Bergen followed with a scoreless inning, allowing a hit and Jacob Barnes allowed a hit and a walk with one strikeout in 1 2/3 innings. Trent Thornton got the win, allowing an unearned run on a hit and a walk with one strikeout in 1 1/3 innings and Hobie Harris got the save, striking out one in the 11th.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Portland Sea Dogs (BOS)

Vancouver Canadians 7, Everett AquaSox (SEA) 4

The Vancouver Canadians (51-57) got a couple of home runs and defeated the Everett AquaSox 7-4 on Sunday.

DH Philip Clarke had a monster game, going 3/5 with a home run and two RBI. Catcher Andres Guerra also hit a home run, going 2/4 with an RBI and a run. Spencer Horwitz was 2/5 with two doubles and a run while Luis De Los Santos was 2/5 with a double and a run. Davis Schneider was on base twice, going 1/3 with a double and two walks, scoring twice and Eric Rivera was 1/4 with a walk and two RBI. Justin Ammons made his Vancouver debut with a 1/3 game, walking once and driving in a run.

Starter Paxton Schultz had a solid effort on the mound, going 5 2/3 innings and giving up two runs on four hits with a walk and five strikeouts. Roither Hernandez struck out five in two innings and gave up a solo home run and a walk for one run allowed in two innings. Hagen Danner also allowed a solo home run and struck out two in 1 1/3 innings.

Dunedin Blue Jays 9, Palm Beach Cardinals (STL) 10

The Dunedin Blue Jays (50-58) fell 10-9 in extra innings to the Palm Beach Cardinals who scored two in the top of the 10th to just one of the Blue Jays’ runs in the bottom.

Steward Berroa had a three-hit game, going 3/5 with a home run, a double, a walk, three runs and his 50th stolen base of the year. Riley Tirotta hit his first professional home run, going 2/5 with two RBI and a run and Addison Barger was 2/5 with a double, an RBI and a run. Mack Mueller was 1/5 with an RBI and a stolen base and PK Morris was 1/3 with a double, two walks, an RBI and a run. Garrett Spain was 0/4 but walked, drove in a run and scored.

Sean Mellen started, allowing five runs on four hits (two HR) with two walks and three strikeouts in two innings while Hunter Gregory allowed a run in the third, giving up a hit and walk with two strikeouts. Harry Rutkowski followed, giving up a run on four hits (one HR) and a walk in three innings and Elixon Caballero walked two and struck out one in 1/3 of an inning. Julian Valdez stranded two inherited runners and struck out three in 1 2/3 innings. Jefferson Herrera allowed a run on a hit (one HR) in one inning and Garrett Spain made his pitching debut, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits in the 10th.
