Another season goes down in the books as the GCL Blue Jays lost to the GCL Red Sox in the league finals. Baseball still continues in five other cities with the Dunedin Blue Jays taking the night off.

 

Buffalo Bisons 2, Syracuse Chiefs 6

 

The Buffalo Bisons were burned by former Bison Darin Mastroianni who drove in four runs as the Bisons fell to the Chiefs 6-2. Donn Roach was excellent in his start, going six scoreless innings and giving up just six hits and two walks with one strikeout. Ben Rowen allowed the first four runs to take the loss while Chad Girodo allowed both inherited runners to score and two more of his own in 2/3 of an inning. Steve Delabar pitched a scoreless ninth, walking one and striking out two.

Joining the two-hit gang on Wednesday night for the Bisons were Alex Hassan, Ryan Schimpf and Sean Ochinko.

Roster Notes: Lefty John Anderson was promoted from New Hampshire to Buffalo.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3, Portland Sea Dogs 4

 

It wasn’t until the 10th inning that the Portland Sea Dogs managed to overtake the home town Fisher Cats but they held on for a 4-3 win. Taylor Cole struck out six in 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits including a home run and two walks. Dustin Antolin allowed a run in 1 2/3 innings and Wil Browning gave up the final run in two innings. K.C. Hobson had another three hits for the Fisher Cats while Shane Opitz hit his third home run of the year, going 2/4 with two RBI and Martin Medina was 2/4 with a walk. Jorge Flores was 1/3 with two walks and an RBI.

Roster Notes: John Anderson was promoted to Buffalo and Christian Lopes came up to New Hampshire from Dunedin.

Lansing Lugnuts 4, Great Lakes Loons 7

 

Lansing was abuzz on Wednesday night thanks to their visitor Humphrey the Camel . . . I mean, Marcus Stroman, who was looking to throw 65 pitches on his way back to the major leagues. Stroman didn’t seem to have a problem with the Class-A opposition, walking one without allowing a hit and striking out seven through 4 2/3 innings. Conor Fisk, basked in the glory that is Stroman and threw 3 1/3 innings of two-hit ball, walking two and striking out three before Carlos Ramirez ran into trouble, giving up seven runs for the loss in just 2/3 of an inning. Dusty Isaacs retired the final batter to finish the game.

Richard Urena seems to be returning to his early season form as he smashed his team-leading 14th home run, going 2/5 with a home run and two RBI. Ryan McBroom and David Harris also contributed with doubles.

Roster Notes: Marcus Stroman was assigned to Lansing for a rehab start.

Vancouver Canadians 0, Tri-City Dust Devils 1

 

With four games left in the Northwest League season, the Vancouver Canadians saw their playoff hopes dashed in a 1-0 loss to the Tri-City Dust Devils on Wednesday. Josh DeGraaf allowed only two hits and a walk over six innings, giving up the one run for the loss. Brandon Hinkle finished the game with two scoreless innings. The Cs had only six hits including doubles from Connor Panas, Sean Hurley and Juan Kelly.

GCL Blue Jays 0, GCL Red Sox 1

 

The GCL Blue Jays saw their season come to an end at the wrong end of a 1-0 loss to the GCL Red Sox as they were swept in the final series of the Gulf Coast League. Osman Gutierrez was strong, allowing just one run on four hits with five strikeouts and no walks in six innings. Griffin Glaude threw a scoreless seventh to end the game (a double header would have been played if the Blue Jays had won, thus the seven-inning game length). Juandy Mendoza and Levi Scott finished strong with two hits apiece.
