More Minor League Roster Shuffling

On Wednesday, there were several minor league moves that directly impact some of the top pitchers for the Blue Jays’ minor league teams this season.

We’ve already reported on Matt Boyd, who tweeted back on Monday that he was New Hampshire bound and the corresponding moves have finally been announced. As reported, Boyd, the Blue Jays’ best minor league starter with a 0.29 ERA in 31 innings with the Dunedin Blue Jays, has been promoted and will start tonight in New Hampshire.

Taking Boyd’s place on the Dunedin Blue Jays’ roster is Kendall Graveman, who has finally been officially announced as the Dunedin Blue Jays’ starter for tonight’s game against the Tampa Yankees. Graveman moves up from Lansing for whom he nearly threw a no-hitter and earned a Midwest League Pitcher of the Week award.

The Lansing Lugnuts have announced several moves over the past couple of days, some for good reasons and some for bad ones. We already reported on L.B. Dantzler joining the Lugnuts from extended spring training on Monday. That night, RHP Adonys Cardona came out of the game with an injury and was immediately placed on the 7-day DL, opening up a roster spot for righty Yeyfry Del Rosario. Finally, with Graveman moving up and outfielder Ian Parmley going on the DL, two more spots on the Lugs opened up for Canadian lefty Shane Dawson and 21-year-old Adaric Kelly.

Dawson had a terrific season that was cut short by injury last year but saw action in Bluefield and Vancouver and put up some outstanding strikeout totals in both leagues. Kelly is a relief pitcher who hits the high-80s with his fastball but his most dangerous weapon is an incredible changeup that makes batters look silly.

There may well be another move for the Lugnuts coming later this week or on the weekend and we’ll keep you all informed on what’s going on in the minors.
