Wins are getting harder to come by for the Blue Jays’ minor league affiliates and none of them won on Tuesday despite seeing starts from Jeff Hoffman and Chase De Jong.

 

 

Buffalo Bisons 5, Indianapolis Indians 10

 

The Indianapolis Indians doubled up the Buffalo Bisons for the second game in a row, this time throwing a ten spot at their pitchers to beat the Bisons again. Andrew Albers made the start and allowed the first eight runs (seven earned) in five innings on nine hits and two walks while Luis Perez allowed two runs on only two hits (and a hit-by-pitch) with four strikeouts. Rob Rasmussen finished the game with a perfect ninth for Buffalo. Poor defense didn’t help the Bisons’ pitchers as four errors were committed including a pair by Chris Dickerson.

The offense scored five runs on eight hits with two each from Dickerson (a single and a double with three RBI), Luke Scott (2/4, 2B, HR) and Andy Burns (2/4) who pushed his Buffalo batting average to .310. Dioner Navarro started the game as catcher and was 1/3 with a double.

Roster Notes:Dioner Navarro was added to the Bisons’ roster for a rehab assignment.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 1, Reading Fightin Phils 10

 

The Fisher Cats faced one of the Phillies’ top pitching prospects in Jesse Biddle who held the home side to just five hits and one run over five innings. The home run came from the red-hot Shane Opitz who launched his second home run for the Fisher Cats. Opitz added a double to go 2/4 on the day. New acquisition Ronald Torreyes was 2/4 and Dwight Smith, Jr. was 1/4.

Joel Pineiro got the start and allowed six runs (four earned) on nine hits and one walk in six innings. Jimmy Cordero made his Double-A debut and the fireballer allowed three runs on three-run home run. Cory Burns allowed another run in the eighth before Blake McFarland got out of the ninth unscathed, striking out a pair.

Roster Notes: Reliever Jimmy Cordero was promoted to New Hampshire and catcher Chris Schaeffer was placed on the 7-day DL.

Dunedin Blue Jays 3, Jupiter Hammerheads 4

 

Jeff Hoffman made his second start for the Dunedin Blue Jays and it wasn’t as good as the first. He allowed four runs on 10 hits and a walk over 4 1/3 innings with four strikeouts. Matt Dermody allowed just a hit over 1 2/3 innings and Matthew Smoral made his full season debut, throwing an inning and striking out one and walking another. Phil Kish had a clean ninth inning for the Blue Jays.

The anemic Dunedin offense continues to struggle, getting just six hits including two from Dawel Lugo and Dickie Joe Thon, one from Alex Hassan (including two RBI) and a double from Roemon Fields, who scored twice, walked and stole two bases.

Roster Notes: Matthew Smoral was assigned to the Dunedin Blue Jays from extended spring training and Jimmy Cordero was sent up to New Hampshire.

Lansing Lugnuts 4, Bowling Green Hot Rods 8

 

In the opener of a series against division leader Bowling Green, the Lansing Lugnuts came away with a loss. Chase De Jong was let down by his defense, allowing five runs but four of them were unearned as he allowed seven hits but no walks over 5 2/3 innings. Jose Fernandez threw a scoreless inning and a third while Dusty Isaacs, a 2014 draftee, surrendered the final three runs in the eighth inning.

On the offensive side, the Lugnuts could only get four runs on their 11 hits. The hot players stayed hot with Richard Urena, Anthony Alford, D.J. Davis and Tim Locastro each getting two hits. Davis launched his second home run of the year and Locastro also got on by getting hit by another pitch.
