May 24, 2017 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

The Dunedin Blue Jays’ game was washed out but the Lansing Lugnuts and Buffalo Bisons returned to the win column to give the Jays’ minor leaguers a 2-1 day.

 

Buffalo Bisons 3, Gwinnett Braves 4

 

Roemon Fields

The Buffalo Bisons’ two-run outburst in the top of the seventh inning wasn’t enough as they fell to the Gwinnett Braves 4-3. The Bisons out-hit the Braves eight to five but only had the one run to show for it. Roemon Fields continues his torrid hitting in Buffalo, going 2/4 with a double, a walk, two runs and a stolen base but he also made an error. Raffy Lopez also continues to hit, going 2/4 with two RBI. Mike Ohlman made his return to the Buffalo lineup with a double.

Luis Santos was on the mound and allowed four runs on three hits (including a three-run home run) and three walks with six strikeouts over five innings. John Stilson threw two scoreless innings and Chad Girodo finished with a scoreless eighth.

Player of the Game: Roemon Fields

Roster Notes: Dwight Smith, Jr. was optioned back to Buffalo.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3, Portland Sea Dogs 4

 

After sweeping their double header on Tuesday, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats dropped their follow up game with the Portland Sea Dogs 4-3. All the scoring in the game was done by the bottom of the fourth inning: the Sea Dogs went up 4-2 in the top half and the Fisher Cats answered with one of their own in the bottom half. Andrew Guillotte had another strong game for the ‘Cats, going 2/3 with a walk, an RBI and a run. Ryan McBroom drove in a run with a sacrifice fly while Harold Ramirez had the other RBI.

Conner Greene had the start and allowed four runs on eight hits, two walks and a hit batter with three strikeouts over six innings. Alonzo Gonzalez pitched two perfect innings, striking out three and Jose Fernandez had his best outing in a while, throwing a perfect ninth with two strikeouts.

Lansing Lugnuts 5, Lake County Captains 4

 

Bo Bichette

The Lansing Lugnuts scored late and beat the rain in defeating the Lake County Captains 5-4 in a rain-shortened game on Wednesday. Justin Maese returned from the temporariliy inactive list to pitch a complete game amounting to seven innings of work. He gave up two home runs among seven hits to account for four runs but he didn’t walk anyone and struck out a whopping 12 batters, throwing 97 pitches and 71 of them for strikes.

Bo Bichette had another monster game at the plate, going 3/3 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI. Vladimir Guerrero was 1/3 with a double, a walk and two RBI while Bradley Jones was 2/2 with a walk, a double and an RBI. Edward Olivares also drove in a run, going 1/4.

Player of the Game: Bo Bichette and Justin Maese

Roster Notes: Tayler Saucedo was assigned to Blue Jays’ extended spring training and Justin Maese was activated from the Temporarily inactive list.
