The Blue Jays’ affiliates had a strong day, winning three out of four with Nate Pearson making headlines for his return in Buffalo.

 

Buffalo Bisons 6, Worcester Red Sox 4

 

Top prospect Nate Pearson took to the mound for the Buffalo Bisons (11-5) for the first time since his demotion from Toronto and he did well in the short stint while the Bisons beat the Worcester Red Sox 6-4.

Pearson was in the game for all of three innings, allowing a run on two hits and a walk with four strikeouts in his first outing back with the Bisons. Connor Overton took over and gave up two runs of his own in two innings, striking out two and giving up three hits and one walk. Tayler Saucedo allowed a hit and a walk, striking out three in his inning, continuing his season’s dominance while Jackson McClelland allowed a solo home run, striking out one in his inning. Bryan Baker got the win, striking out five in two innings, walking one.

Kevin Smith continues to slug, hitting his second home run in as many games, going deep for his third of the season and going 2/5 with two RBI and a stolen base. Riley Adams came in later in the game for Juan Graterol and went 2/2 with a home run and two runs while Nash Knight (2/3, BB, RBI, R), Forrest Wall (2/3, 2B, BB, R, SB) and Christian Colon (2/5, RBI, R) had two hits each. Tyler Whilte was 1/3 with a walk and Logan Warmoth was 1/5 with an RBI while Graterol was 1/2.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 12, Portland Sea Dogs (BOS) 4

 

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (7-9) scored 12 runs for the second game in a row behind a strong start from Zach Logue as they beat the Portland Sea Dogs 12-4.

Austin Martin, playing shortstop, had one of his best games of his young professional career, going 3/4 with a double and a walk, scoring three runs and stealing a base. Gabriel Moreno also had a big game, going 3/4 with a double, a walk, three RBI and two runs. LJ Talley had two doubles, going 2/5 with three RBI, a run and a stolen base while Samad Taylor was 2/5 and Reggie Pruitt was 2/5 with a home run, two RBI and a run.

Logue tossed six strong innings, giving up just one run on three hits and a walk with six strikeouts. Willy Gaston, making his Double-A debut, allowed a solo home run in his inning while Sam Ryan gave up a run on a hit and two walks in the eighth. Connor Law allowed a run on a hit and a walk in the ninth.

Vancouver Canadians 3, Hillsboro Hops (ARI) 4

 

The Vancouver Canadians (11-5) almost came back to win, scoring two runs in the top of the ninth but their comeback came up short, falling 4-3 to the Hillsboro Hops.

The C’s had just five hits with Ryan Gold going deep and going 2/3 with a walk, the home run and two runs. Tanner Morris also hit a home run in the ninth, driving in two, going 2/4. Cameron Eden had the club’s only other hit.

Nick Fraze had a strong start, allowing just a solo home run to cross the plate on three hits with two walks and six strikeouts in six innings. Cobi Johnson took the loss, allowing three runs on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 2/3 of an inning and Marcus Reyes came in, allowing one of his two inherited runners to score but gave up no runs of his own in 1 1/3 innings, striking out one and walking one.

Dunedin Blue Jays 1, Clearwater Threshers (PHI) 0

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays (6-10) rode their pitchers to a 1-0 win over the Clearwater Threshers.

Winder Garcia made his best start of the year so far, going four scoreless innings, giving up two hits and three walks with five strikeouts before Jiorgeny Casimiri took over, pitching three perfect innings and striking out four. Adrian Hernandez got the save, pitching the last two innings and walking one with two strikeouts.

The offense had just four hits with Ryan Sloniger getting two including a double. Orelvis Martinez was 1/4 and Leonardo Jimenez was 1/3 while Addison Barger (0/4) drove in the only run.
