The Blue Jays’ minor league affiliates were 3-1 on Wednesday, getting solid wins across the board and some very good pitching performances.

 

Buffalo Bisons 1, Worcester Red Sox 4

 

The Worcester Red Sox turned the tide on the Buffalo Bisons (10-5), beating the Herd 4-1 a day after the Bisons beat them by the same score.

Third baseman Kevin Smith led the anemic offense, getting two of the five hits, hitting a double and his third home run of the season, taking a walk and driving in the club’s only run. Logan Warmoth went 2/3 with a walk and a double and Christian Colon was 1/4.

The big story of the game, however, was Thomas Hatch‘s return on a rehab assignment and he struck out four in three innings but allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits (including a home run). Jacob Waguespack struck out five in four innings but also allowed two runs on three hits and Carl Edwards Jr. worked a 1-2-3 ninth, striking out one.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 12, Portland Sea Dogs (BOS) 6

 

2019 draftee LJ Talley and Samad Taylor drove the offense, stealing the thunder of Austin Martin‘s return to the lineup as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (6-9) doubled up on the Portland Sea Dogs 12-6.

Taylor was 4/4 with a home run, three RBI, a stolen base and three runs while Talley was 2/5 with two home runs, six RBI and two runs. Austin Martin was 1/4 with an RBI, a sac fly and a run as he returned from a minor hand injury and Otto Lopez kept his hitting streak going, going 1/5 with a run. Demi Orimoloye was 1/4 with two stolen bases and a run and Rodrigo Vigil was 1/3 with a walk and a run. Vinny Capra was 0/1 but walked three times, scored twice and stole a base and Chavez Young was 0/4 but walked, drove in a run and scored.

Starter Maximo Castillo was solid in picking up his second win, going five innings and giving up two runs on four hits (one HR) with two walks and four strikeouts. Fitz Stadler allowed a hit and three walks in 1 2/3 innings, striking out one and Jon Harris threw 1 1/3 innings, striking out two. James Dykstra allowed just a walk in the ninth, striking out two.

Vancouver Canadians 2, Hillsboro Hops (ARI) 1

 

The Vancouver Canadians (11-4) got another tremendous pitching performance and got the most out of their two hits to beat the Hillboro Hops 2-1.

CJ Van Eyck had another outstanding start, going six innings and allowing just one run on two hits and a walk and struck out nine in his best professional start. Brandon Eisert got the win, allowing two hits and striking out one in two innings and Parker Caracci got his second save of the year, allowing one hit in the ninth.

Tanner Kirwer continues to be hot, walking three times and stealing a base for the Cs while Cameron Eden was 1/4 with a run. Luis de Los Santos had the club’s only other hit wile Davis Schneider (0/1, 2 BB), Spencer Horwitz (0/2, R, 2 BB) and Rafael Lantigua (0/2, RBI, 2 BB) walked twice each.

Dunedin Blue Jays 6, Clearwater Threshers (PHI) 2

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays (5-10) got a second strong pitching performance in a row as they beat the Clearwater Threshers 6-2 on Thursday night.

2020 fourth-round draft pick Nick Frasso made his pro debut for the Blue Jays and tossed two scoreless innings, walking one and striking out two. He was relieved by Alejandro Melean who brought his ERA below 9.00 (to 7.56) with three scoreless innings, allowing four hits with four strikeouts. Juan De Paula also brought his ERA down (to 7.71) with three scoreless innings, walking two and striking out five. Roither Hernandez gave up the Threshers’ only two runs (one earned) on two hits with one strikeout in the ninth.

Third baseman Miguel Hiraldo led the offense, going 3/5 with an RBI but also committed an error while Orelvis Martinez was 2/5 with a double and an RBI, scoring a run and Zach Britton was 2/3 with two walks, an RBI and a run. Justin Ammons was 2/4 with a double, an RBI and a run and Jose Rivas was 2/4 with an RBI. PK Morris was 1/4 with a walk and a run as well.
