Well, that was ugly. I’m kind of glad I wasn’t watching the Blue Jays game last night. There were two afternoon games for the minor league squads and just one night game after Buffalo was postponed due to rain.

Buffalo Bisons: Postponed due to rain

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 4, Reading Fightin’ Phils 5

In an exciting game with Deck McGuire on the mound, the Fisher Cats fought back from a 4-2 deficit to score two runs on back-to-back homers by Mike Crouse and Gabe Jacobo in the bottom of the ninth only to allow a run in the 10th and fall to Reading. Deck McGuire put up a very good start, going 7 1/3 innings with just two runs on four hits and two walks allowed with eight strikeouts. Tyler Ybarra was charged with the blown save, allowing the Fightin’ Phils to take the lead and Randy Boone got the loss for allowing the run in the 10th inning. The offense struggled most of the day, coming up with only six hits including a pair from Jon Berti. The club was running wild, stealing five bases off of Reading with one each by Kenny Wilson, A.J. Jimenez and Kevin Nolan and two by Andy Burns.

Dunedin Blue Jays 2, Palm Beach Cardinals 2

It started off fine for the D-Jays, having a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the fifth but their magic eluded them and the Cardinals started to pile on the runs ending in a 9-2 loss. Ben White, the starter, was only charged with three runs on seven hits and three walks in 4 2/3 innings while Chad Girodo had his first blow-up of the season, allowing three runs and getting just one out. Danny Barnes and Justin Jackson both surrendered runs in their inning of work and Kramer Champlin was the only one who managed to get through his inning unscathed. Nick Baligod had three of the club’s nine hits while Dwight Smith, Jr. had another two. Emilio Guerrero hit his fourth home run of the season.

Lansing Lugnuts 3, Bowling Green Hot Rods 4

In another close, day-time game, the Lugnuts ended up coming up just short against the Hot Rods and one of the Rays’ top pitching prospects, Ryne Stanek. The Lugnuts did most of their damage against the bullpen, with Derrick Loveless going 2/2 with a pair of walks and Jorge Saez going 1/3 with a double, a walk and two RBI. Jeremy Gabryszwski threw six solid innings, allowing only one run on five hits and a walk but Alonzo Gonzalez got tagged for two runs (on a home run) and Brady Dragmire allowed a run to take his third loss of the season.
