Of the four games played by the Blue Jays’ minor league affiliates they won just one: the second half of a double header played by the Dunedin Blue Jays. The New Hampshire Fisher Cats were rained out.

 

Buffalo Bisons 2, Norfolk Tides 5

 

The Norfolk Tides scored early and the Buffalo Bisons scored late but it was only two runs to the Tides’ five as the Bisons took the loss. Roberto Hernandez gave up a lot of ground balls on Friday and too many of them went for base hits as he allowed four runs on eight hits and one walk with two strikeouts despite getting seven ground ball outs (and three fly ball outs). Pat McCoy added an inning of scoreless relief with one strikeout. Pat Venditte threw a scoreless seventh, walking one and striking out one before Colt Hynes came in for the eighth, giving up a run on two hits with a strikeout.

Dalton Pompey continues to hit well since his return from injury, going 2/5 with a double and an RBI while Domonic Brown was 1/3 with a double and a walk and Matt Dominguez also hit a double.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Hartford Yard Goats

Dunedin Blue Jays 5, Brevard County Manatees 7

 

In the first half of their double header, the Brevard County Manatees rode 14 hits from their offense to beat the Dunedin Blue Jays 7-5. The Blue Jays got two hits each from Ryan McBroom and Jason Leblebijian with McBroom hitting his fifth home run of the year. D.J. Davis brought his batting average up to .200 with a 1/2 game that included a triple, two RBI and a walk. Devon Travis was 1/4 with an RBI and a double in his first game on a rehab stint.

Kyle Westwood has not been great for the Dunedin Blue Jays this season and fell to 0-5 after allowing all seven runs on 12 hits and one walk in five innings despite six strikeouts. Carlos Ramirez finished the game with two innings of two-hit ball, striking out one.

Roster Notes: Devon Travis was sent to Dunedin on a rehab assignment while Jackson Lowery and Nate Abel were sent back to extended spring training. Conor Fisk came up from Lansing and Colton Turner came back to Dunedin from extended spring training.

 

Dunedin Blue Jays 6, Brevard County Manatees 2

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays evened out the double header, getting five runs in the fifth as well as some solid pitching. Chris Rowley made a spot start and allowed only a solo home run and a walk through three innings, striking out six batters. Conor Fisk, recently promoted from Lansing, followed, providing three innings of one-run, five-hit ball, striking out a pair and Colton Turner finished it off, striking out two of the three batters he faced.

Jason Leblebijian had another excellent game, going 2/3 with a home run and a walk while Richard Urena was 2/3 with a double and a rare walk. D.J. Davis added two stolen bases to his season total (now at nine), going 1/3 with an RBI and two runs. Michael De La Cruz drove in two with a triple and scored while Ryan McBroom hit a double.

Lansing Lugnuts 2, South Bend Cubs 15

 

After blanking the South Bend Cubs on Thursday, the Lansing Lugnuts fell 5-2 on Friday night. Ryan Borucki made his first Midwest League start and fared much better than he had in the Florida State League, giving up just one run on three hits and one walk with five strikeouts in five innings. Josh DeGraaf allowed the next four runs (two earned) over two innings, giving up three hits and a walk. The wheels fell off in the eighth inning as Gustavo Pierre walked three and gave up a hit, getting charged with four runs and retiring just one batter before Daniel Lietz struggled, giving up another four hits and allowing the two inherited runners from Pierre to score as well as another four runs of his own over 2/3 of an inning. Infielder Aaron Attaway came on for the ninth inning and retired his first two batters before the Cubs got to him for two runs. Attaway ended up finishing the game with no further damage and before another position player, Connor Panas, was able to make his way from the bullpen.

On the offensive side, Max Pentecost added another two hits in his second game this season and Juan Kelly hit a double.

Roster Notes: Conor Fisk was promoted to Dunedin and Patrick Murphy was promoted to Lansing.
