The red hot Lansing Lugnuts were the only Blue Jays affiliate to come away with a win on Thursday as the organization had a 1-3 record among its minor league clubs.

 

Buffalo Bisons 7, Lehigh Valley IronPigs 10

 

The Buffalo Bisons couldn’t quite catch the high flying Lehigh Valley IronPigs as The Herd fell to a game behind first-place Lehigh Valley with a 10-7 loss. Rowdy Tellez continues to show signs of coming out of his slump with two doubles and two RBI while Raffy Lopez also had a pair of doubles, adding a single, a walk, an RBI and two runs to his 3/4 day. Jason Leblebijian was 2/5 with a double and a triple while Christian Lopes was 2/5 with a double and an RBI and Roemon Fields was 2/3 with a walk, two RBI, a run and two stolen bases.

T.J. House got the start for the Bisons, allowing eight runs (five earned) on nine hits and two walks over five innings. Murphy Smith added two scoreless innings to his resume while Chad Girodo gave up two more runs in the eighth inning.

Roster Notes: Leonel Campos was promoted to Toronto  and Deiferson Barreto was assigned to Buffalo from extended spring training.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3, Altoona Curve 4

 

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats opened their series with the Altoona Curve locked in a low-scoring game for the first seven innings. When the Fisher Cats broke out for three runs in the eighth inning, fans might have thought they were in for their second consecutive win but the Curve scored in the bottom of the eighth and then walked it off in the bottom of the ninth to beat the ‘Cats 4-3. In the eighth, the Fisher Cats started the inning by loading the bases with Jonathan Davis and Anthony Alford singling and Ryan McBroom walking. Richard Urena reached when the defense made an error on a force play, allowing two runs to score and Gunnar Heidt hit a sac fly before the inning was over. Overall, Davis and Alford were both 2/4 with a walk while Urena added two hits and an RBI. Heidt was 1/3 with the sac fly and RBI while Mike Reeves was 1/3 with a walk.

Conner Greene had one of his stronger starts, going six innings and giving up just one run on four hits. He did walk four batters and struck out three and got six ground outs to four fly outs. Justin Shafer came in and allowed a run on a solo home run among three hits but struck out three in two innings while Tim Mayza only got one out in the ninth, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks to take the loss.

Dunedin Blue Jays 3, Daytona Tortugas 5

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays had a 3-1 lead going into the seventh inning but things fell apart late in the game as the Daytona Tortugas rallied against starter T.J. Zeuch and the bullpen to beat the Blue Jays 5-3. Zeuch was pretty solid, allowing three runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and no walks over seven innings. Adonys Cardona took the loss, allowing two runs on four hits in just one-third of an inning. Danny Young relieved him and stranded two runners to finish the eighth. Philip Walby walked two in the ninth but didn’t allow a run.

The Blue Jays had just four hits including a triple from Juan Kelly, who also walked twice, and a double from Josh Almonte who drove in a run. Danny Jansen was 1/4 with a double and an RBI while D.J Davis was 1/4 with an RBI and a stolen base.

Lansing Lugnuts 4, Kane County Cougars 1

 

The Lansing Lugnuts opened their series with the Kane County Cougars with an impressive 4-1 win, doing all of the things that you want a winning club to do. Starter Justin Maese was the story of the game who went the distance for the Lugnuts with his best outing yet this year. Over nine innings, he allowed just five hits and one walk, striking out seven and giving up only one run. He needed 103 pitches and got 10 outs via the ground while seven came from fly balls.

Edward Olivares continues to be hot, leading the offense on Thursday with three hits including two triples and an RBI. Christian Williams was 2/3 with a walk and a run while Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero each had one hit. Andres Sotillo made his Lugnuts debut, driving in a run.
