The Blue Jays’ minor league teams swept their three games on Sunday, getting some outstanding pitching across the system and some power packed hitting from some (somewhat) unlikely sources.

 

Buffalo Bisons, Syracuse Chiefs

 

Postponed due to rain

Roster Notes: Matt Dominguez was called up to the Blue Jays while Ryan Tepera was sent back down to Buffalo.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 8, Reading Fightin Phils 0

 

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats had a great day, defeating the Reading Fightin Phils by an 8-0 score, getting outstanding pitching across the board while a New Hampshire newbie had a big debut in Double-A. Jason Berken got the start, throwing four innings of one-hit, one-walk ball, striking out four. He was followed by Chris Smith who didn’t allow a run despite giving up four hits in two innings but struck out three. Matt Dermody earned the win, throwing two hitless innings, striking out a pair and Wil Browning finished it off, giving up a hit and striking out one.

Jason Leblebijian broke into Double-A with a 3/4 game, hitting a double, a home run, a single and taking a walk, driving in two and scoring twice. Wilkin Castillo also hit a single, double and a home run, driving in three while Shane Opitz was on base three times with a single and two walks.

Dunedin Blue Jays 5, Palm Beach Cardinals 0

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays followed the New Hampshire Fisher Cats’ example and blanked the Palm Beach Cardinals by a 5-0 score. Chris Rowley went to 4-0 and lowered his ERA to 2.89 with 6 2/3 innings of scoreless pitching, giving up three hits and four walks with two strikeouts. Colton Turner continues to throw zeroes up on the board, adding 1 1/3 innings of scoreless ball to his resume, allowing a hit and striking out one. Tim Mayza finished up with a perfect ninth, striking out one.

Jonathan Davis hit two home runs, going 2/3 with the solo blasts. Aaron Attaway was 2/4 with two runs and Richard Urena hit a double.

Roster Notes: Aaron Attaway was assigned back to the Dunedin Blue Jays from extended spring training.

 

Lansing Lugnuts 6, Bowling Green Hot Rods 2

 

The Lansing Lugnuts didn’t score for starter Sean Reid-Foley, but in the seventh and eighth innings, provided support for Starlyn Suriel as they finished with a 6-2 win over the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Reid-Foley was outstanding, showing his dominant form in Lansing by throwing six innings of two-hit, one-walk ball, striking out five. Suriel allowed two unearned runs, giving up two hits and striking out two in 1 2/3 innings while Dusty Isaacs saved his 11th game, also allowing two hits and striking out two.

Lane Thomas is approaching the Mendoza Line, as he moved his batting average to .199 with a 2/4 game that included a triple and an RBI. Justin Atkinson hit his first home run of the year, going 1/3 with a two-run shot and adding a walk. Carl Wise scored twice after going 1/2 with two walks.

Roster Notes: Jacob Anderson was assigned to extended spring training and Jake Thomas was added to the Lansing Lugnuts’ roster.
