June 4, 2017 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

The Blue Jays’ affiliates went 2-2 on Sunday with wins from Lansing and Buffalo while the DSL Blue Jays got their season going on Saturday, winning their opener.

 

Buffalo Bisons 10, Charlotte Knights 5

The Buffalo Bisons completed their sweep of the Charlotte Knights with a 10-5 win on Sunday. Dalton Pompey moved up to Buffalo to continue his rehab assignment and was 1/2 before making way for Jake Elmore in the fourth inning. Mike Ohlman was the top performer, going 3/5 with a home run, five RBI and two runs while Jason Leblebijian was on base four times, going 3/4 with a walk, two RBI and two runs. Christian Lopes and Shane Opitz were each 2/4 with a double and Lopes added two RBI, two runs and a stolen base while Opitz scored once.

Cesar Valdez picked up his second win as a Bison, going seven strong innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk with seven strikeouts. Chad Girodo allowed two runs over the final two innings.

Roster Notes: Dalton Pompey was moved to Buffalo on a rehab assignment.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 4, Hartford Yard Goats 6

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats saved their scoring for late in the game, scoring all four of their runs in the sixth through eighth innings but it wasn’t enough to salvage a win against the Hartford Yard Goats in a 6-4 loss. Andrew Guillotte his his second Double-A home run, going 2/3 with a double, two RBI and a run in addition to the dinger. Michael De La Cruz was also 2/3 with a walk and two doubles and Jake Thomas got his first Double-A hit, going 1/4 with a double and an RBI.

Jon Harris allowed four runs to take the loss but only three were earned despite allowing six hits including two home runs and three walks, striking out five in five innings. Josh DeGraaf gave up another run in the sixth before Dusty Isaacs pitched a scoreless seventh. Andrew Case surrendered the final run on two hits in the eighth inning.

Dunedin Blue Jays 5, Daytona Tortugas 6

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays took 12 innings to extend their losing streak to six games after getting locked in a see-saw battle with the Daytona Tortugas, ultimately losing 6-5. Jordan Romano had another strong start but a couple of errors led to three unearned runs. Romano went six innings, giving up four runs (one earned), allowing four hits and one walk with seven strikeouts. Jackson McClelland made his Dunedin debut, allowing a hit over 1 2/3 innings before Danny Young allowed a run over 1 1/3 to blow the save. Tom Robson went an inning of scoreless relief and Ryan Cook was fine for the 11th but allowed a run on a hit and two walks in to allow the Tortugas to get the walk-off win.

Four Blue Jays had two hits apiece including Carl Wise who is heating up, slamming two doubles and driving in a pair of runs. Juan Kelly was 2/5 with a double, a walk and a run while Connor Panas was 2/5 with a walk, a run and a stolen base. D.J. Davis was 2/6 with a double and two stolen bases. Bradley Jones was on base three times, going 1/4 with two walks while Cavan Biggio led off the game with his third home run of the year, going 1/5 with the home run and a walk. Ryan Hissey was 0/3 but walked three times.

Lansing Lugnuts 8, West Michigan Whitecaps 6

The Lansing Lugnuts spread their scoring out, cashing five runs in the first inning and another three in the ninth to overcome the West Michigan Whitecaps 8-6 in their series closer on Sunday. Four Lugnuts had two hits each with Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. going 2/4 with a walk and a run, Nash Knight going 2/3 with a walk, an RBI and a run, Joshua Palacios going 2/4 with a double, an RBI and a run and Yeltsin Gudino going 2/4 with an RBI and a run. Edward Olivares drove in three runs while Rodrigo Orozco drove in what proved to be the winning run on a ground ball to third base.

Denis Diaz was on the hill to start the game, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts over five innings. Geno Encina blew the save, allowing two solo home runs over two innings. Nick Hartman was the winner, throwing two scoreless innings, giving up just a hit and striking out one.

Saturday, June 3 Result

 

DSL Blue Jays 2, DSL Orioles 0

 

The DSL Blue Jays opened their season on Saturday with a 2-0 win over the DSL Orioles. Joi Concepcion started the game, going four hitless innings and allowing two walks with two strikeouts. Ronald Magdaniel earned the win win 1 2/3 innings of two-hit ball while Nicolas Medina finished the sixth by getting one out. Alexander Molina struck out three in two innings, giving up two hits while Luis Mendoza earned the save with a scoreless ninth, striking out one.

Warnel Valdez was 2/4 with a double, playing left field while Hector Guerrero, the third baseman, was 2/3 with an RBI and a stolen base. Hugo Cardona drove in the other run, going 1/3 with a walk and a stolen base.
