Vladdy went deep again for the Bluefield Blue Jays as the Jays’ minor league clubs won five of their six games.

Buffalo Bisons 5, Indianapolis Indians 3

 

Despite a combined 25 hits on Sunday, the Buffalo Bisons got enough offense out of their 15 hits to beat the Indianapolis Indians and move to within two games of the International League North division leaders (but are still in fourth place). The Bisons have now won six straight game and swept the Indianapolis Indians after gettnig a solid start from John Anderson and excellent work out of the bullpen. Anderson allowed three runs on nine hits with two walks and strikeouts. Aaron Loup and Franklin Morales threw scoreless innings each while Ben Rowen only got one out, allowing a hit and two walks, loading the bases for Danny Barnes who escaped the inning without harm and threw a perfect ninth to pick up his first Triple-A save.

The Bisons had a hit parade of their own, getting at least one hit from each of the nine players in the lineup, two hits from four players and three from Darrell Ceciliani who was 3/4 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run. Domonic Brown (2/5), Matt Dominguez (2/5, RBI, R, SB), Casey Kotchman (2/5) and Andy Burns (2/5, 2B, RBI, R) all had two hits.

Roster Notes: Bo Schultz was promoted to the Blue Jays and Franklin Morales was added to the Buffalo roster for rehab. The Blue Jays optioned Chad Girodo and promoted Ryan Tepera.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 1, Harrisburg Senators 3

Taylor Cole was solid for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats but the offense could only piece together one run (which was unearned) against Tyler Mapes in a 3-1 loss on Sunday. Cole went six innings, giving up two runs on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts before turning it over the bullpen. Chris Smith gave up a hit and a walk over 1 1/3 innings, striking out three while Tim Mayza allowed a run on two hits and a walk in 1 1/3 innings. Wil Browning got the last out to end the game.

The Fisher Cats had only eight hits including two each from Jason Leblebijian 92/4, R) and Rowdy Tellez (2/4).

Dunedin Blue Jays 7, Lakeland Flying Tigers 4

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays thumped their way to a 7-4, rain-shortened victory opening up a series against the Lakeland Flying Tigers. In the process, the Blue Jays overcame a rough start from Conner Greene by blasting former teammate Jairo Labourt out of the game in the first inning. Richard Urena was 2/3 with a double, a walk and two runs while Jorge Saez was 2/3 with a home run, two RBI and a run. Anthony Alford was 1/2 with a double, a walk and two RBI and Emilio Guerrero was 1/3 with a run. Aaron Attaway was 1/2 with a walk, an RBI and two stolen bases.

Greene went only four innings, allowing three runs on six hits and four walks with two strikeouts. Brad Allen earned the win, giving up a solo home run and striking out one in one inning.

Lansing Lugnuts 12, West Michigan Whitecaps 9

 

In a slugfest, the Lansing Lugnuts proved to have enough lumber to come back against the West Michigan Whitecaps, pounding out seven runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to win 12-7. On the hitting side, only Justin Atkinson went without a base hit but he did hit a sac fly and threw out one of the two attempted base stealers to contribute. John La Prise (2/4, 3B, BB, 3 RBI, 2 R), Max Pentecost (2/4, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R), Juan kelly (2/5, 2 RBI, R), Connor Panas (2/5, HR, RBI, R), Carl Wise (2/4, R) and Austin Davis (2/4, 2 R) all had two-hit games. Jake Thomas, coming in for Andrew Guillotte in the third inning, was 1/1 with two walks, an RBI and two runs.

Jon Harris wasn’t as sharp as he has been recently, giving up five runs (three earned) on seven hits and a walk, striking out three over 5 2/3 innings. Starlyn Suriel took the win but gave up two runs on two hits and a walk in 2 1/3 innings but stranded the bases loaded when he came in for Harris. Dusty Isaacs allowed two runs in the ninth but the Lugnuts hung on to win.

Vancouver Canadians 5, Hillsboro Hops 1

 

The Vancouver Canadians threw three pitchers at the Hillsboro Hops and got solid performances from all of them, holding the Hops to just one run and winning 5-1. Luis Sanchez started and allowed the only run on a solo home run, walking one and allowing three hits. Andy Ravel picked up the win with his pro debut, giving up a hit and striking out one in three innings while Mike Ellenbest also had a strong debut, going three innings with two hits against and two strikeouts for the save.

With just six hits for the club, the offense wasn’t exactly dominant but Deiferson Barreto was 2/4 with a double, an RBI and a run. Lance Jones was 1/3 with a walk, two RBI and a stolen base and Mattingly Romanin was on base three times, going 1/2 with a single and two walks, scoring twice.

Roster Notes: Andy Ravel and Mike Ellenbest were assigned to Vancouver.

 

Bluefield Blue Jays 4, Burlington Royals 3

 

The Bluefield Blue Jays got a decent overall performance by their pitching staff but also got home runs from Nick Sinay and Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. along the way to a 4-3 win. Sinay had two hits, while Guerrero was 1/4 with two strikeotus. Reggie Pruitt came out of the game after going 1/1 with Earl Burl III pinch running. Burl was 1/3 with a double while Bradley Jones and Levi Scott both hit doubles.

Denis Diaz started the game and gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits with three strikeouts over 3 1/3 innings while Connor Eller took the win, striking out four in 3 1/3 innings with two hits against. Chris Hall got a save, allowing a solo home run, giving up three hits over 2 1/3 innings with two strikeouts.
